Prevalence of Tickling Fetish?

Has anyone ever wondered what the prevalence of our particular fetish is among the population at large?

No?

Well, i have.

and, encouraged by the huge membership of this forum, i decided to see if i could figure it out.

now, this isnt scientific at all. i think that because people are often so private and sometimes embarrassed to discuss their fetish, it is something that will never be thoroughly and objectively studied, even though i would love to see it get attention in psychological/social literature. but anyway, here you go:



so the first thing i had to assume, for the sake of simplicity, is that the 25,000 members here represent a large portion of the people who have a tickling fetish and access to the internet. about 75% of americans have access to the internet somewhere, but of course if you only have access to it at work then youre not very likely to be looking at this forum. so i had to search for the amount of people who have internet at home....which is apparently around 168 mil. thanks to infoplease.

i obviously have incorrectly assumed that everyone on this forum is from the us. i apologize to everyone who isnt, but because the stats for the US are so much easier to come by, you are all honory citizens for the purpose of this estimate.

so anyway 25,000/168,000,000 gives us a prevalence of a whopping .0149%. which means about 1 in every 6720 people has a tickling fetish. or not. i just decided it was worth a shot.

still, 1 in 6720 is a whole lot better than what i thought for most of my early teenage years : just ME.

anyhow so there you go, pretty worthless but i managed to procrastinate for a little while.

Hey, I can live with that. 1 in 6720 out of 168 million gives us a pretty decent representation, and I'm sure (as you mentioned) that there are probably others out who still aren't aware of the community or don't have ready access to the Internet or are just too shy to admit it to themselves just yet. ^_^

Conservative estimate in your calculations since you are only using the membership here. Take into consideration membership of other forums and tickle groups/clubs throughout the net...(Yahoo, AOL etc etc) make a very conservative guesstimate at that and throw an even number out there at 100,000 then do your math. There are alot more of us than one would thing and that is just using the internet as your census.

Well, as someone who has wrangled with scientific crap for a couple of years, it would be interesting to see how that compares with other countries. Or interestingly, how does membership numbers compare with foreign sites? Just a thought...

Tickle Theater has 25,000 members. Suppose everyone with a tickle fetish has found his/her way to this forum. On a world population of 4 billion people that is 1 ticklefan on every 160,000 people. That means that in my country there are about 100 people with a tickle fetish. On a german tickle chat I noticed that the ratio male - female is about 4 to 1. So in my country there are about 20 women into tickling. Since 1 on every 20 only wants to tickle other female, it becomes even less. Many of the other 19 will be married, so I think for me, a single guy, I must be happy if there is one woman left for me.

You're not counting the lurkers who do not wish to register for their own reasons. Unfortunately the Urchin stats we have maxes out after a week of use, but for the beginning of October we were just under 10,000 sessions (unique people both members and guests) per day. Plus, we're always getting new registrations everyday. Just write down the number and check it again tomorrow. 🙂

well were also obviously only counting those people who speak english...

also, TTD, i would venture to say that there is a huge overlap between this and other tickling groups/sites on the net. i have yet to see a yahoo group exceed just a few thousand...

but youre right im being very conservative because then when i get a number like 1 in 6720 im ECSTATIC because were really not that rare after all.

bobscabinet, im pretty sure that the vast majoirty of people with any fetish are men. but if you cant find a tickling fetish woman, a caring and understanding girlfriend will usually let you indulge anyway =)

finally, i wonder if anyone has any thoughts about different age groups? i know that nearly every age group is represented in this forum, but does anyone think a certain age group has a higher rate of tickling (or any, really) fetishes?

You're also forgetting the fact that you've only counted people who live on the planet earth, what about all the other human like life forms on all the planets out there that we havent been to yet, maybe its a common think on one of em, or maybe even a form of mating, did you ever think of that, huh? did ya??

If you count all the tickling forums and websites, don;t forget to factor for duplication of membership, otherwise you will have a %'age that is falsely high...
