mods, y'all can move this one to International if you feel it might go better there.

I know we've got some Japanese speakers in the audience, so I was wondering if anyone's familiar with the mega-smash J-Pop duo, Puffy Amiyumi. I've recently gotten myself hooked on their music and have been ordering their CDs like crazy.

("like we care, Phineas? get to the point?")

right. anyhoo. as those of us with any sort of Japanese-speaking background know, the "magic word" in Japanese is "kusuguri" (or "kusuguru", depending on the conjugation, methinks). I've heard, or at least, *think* I've heard, these words pop up in lyrics to at least two of the songs on my CDs, but I don't speak enough Japanese to know for sure, nor would I know what the songs were about if I tried.

So, if there's anyone out there who can either translate, or point me to translations of, the following two songs, and let me know if there is indeed tickling mentioned in them, I would be a happy sponge.

The songs in questions are "Long Beach Nightmare" (Track #7) from "Nice", and "Green Apple" (Track #9) from "Spike".

arigato in advance, n' stuff.

Hello,

The songs in questions are "Long Beach Nightmare" (Track #7) from "Nice", and "Green Apple" (Track #9) from "Spike".

Actually, the track from "Nice" is track #9, "K2G" (also featured in the "Mad Mod" episode of Teen Titans in a hysterical, scooby-esque chase scene) in the half-time bridge section. And it sounds an awful lot like like "the word" to me, too.

Now, if I understand correctly:
- Kusuguru would be the verb in what's called the "dictionary form." (They don't have what westerners would think of as an infinitive form.)
- Kusuguri (as heard in "Green Apple") would be the noun form.
- Kusugutte (as heard in "K2G") would be the verb in gerund tense: tickling.

Bear in mind, I've only had one year of formal training in Japanese, so if someone knows something I don't, speak right up.

Now if you just want to hear "the word" in another language, you can also find it in the song "Cherry" by J-rock quartet "Spitz." It's on their 7th album/CD "Indigo Chiheisen." But don't get it just for that. Get it because Spitz rocks! (At time of posting, someone is selling a copy of their 9th CD, "Hayabusa" on eBay. I already have a copy.)

iie. dou itashimashite.

p.s.: Apropos of nothing, in the original Japanese, the song "Green Apple" is titled "Aoi Ringo" which actually translates as "blue apple." (???)

Actually, the track from "Nice" is track #9, "K2G"

D'OH!

you'd think after listening to the album for a month straight I'd be able to tell the songs apart!

Ah, Puffy Amiyumi...they did most of the music for Teen Titans. Because of this, you could try looking on www.animelyrics.com for the information you need. The sites a lot slower than it used to be, but you might find something.
