Since my Cardinals are 10 games back and fading, what do you all think are the chances of a White Sox/Cubs World Series???

I think there's a chance. The Cubs have been great all year, and the White Sox have been playing very well recently.

Given the fact that my Braves are 15 games out now, and are going nowhere but home on September 28th, my personal hope for this year's World Series would involve the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. I think it would be great if Tampa was in the Series. I was originally hoping for a Phillies-Devil Rays World Series, since the Phillies are in my home state, but Philly has faded lately, so that's not likely to happen.

Mitch

Now that would be an amazing matchup! Any hopes I had of The Red Sox stepping it up and going all the way are fading fast. A matchup of Chicago VS. Chicago would be friggin awesome.

Yeah, i could see a typical garbage moment of a cubs\sox series happening esp since they split the series this year and the whole overblown crap on "its been 100 years"

Both teams are very parallel this year, with both teams dominating at home while slagging behind on the road.

A historical note as well, the last time both teams were in the post season together was in the 1906 series when the hitless wonders(sox) upsetted the cubs(who set the current standing ML record for wins in a season)

There are still good teams in the NL\AL that could end up in the series that are not from chicago. It all depends on the standings

As of now, the sox would play tb i believe and the twins\boston would play anahiem

Even with injuries, im not counting out tampa

Sorry to bump myown thread, but here's another one for ya!

How many innings would the first game go before Ozzie and Lou both got tossed by the umps??? Hahaha!

I'll say a half inning!

Zero, theyve played each other before and no incidents

The bigger question should be how many innings till the "loyal cub fans" throw trash on the field because they dispute a call

Also, i still wouldnt count out the cards or the brewers. No lead is unbeatable and hell, cards came back from how many back to leapfrog the cubs several seasons ago. Granted that was post ASG break but it shows it can happen. Brewers are also a good team that can do things

There's that green-eyed monster again. Sorry your Sox don't have the world-wide following my Cubs do.

The Cubbies are the favourites in the NL, but the White Sox would be the least likely of the AL playoff teams to make the Series.

You were probably joking, but it's rare to see a manager get tossed in the World Series.

Why would i care how many fans a team has?

I can also say sorry your team doesnt have the league mvp(which at the moment, carlos quentin is a very good candidate) and potential rookie of the year(alexei ramirez)

The cubs main weakness is middle relief. Strong starting to closer is key for them but they have issues trying to get to wood.

A team's bullpen shrinks come playoff time, and they clearly have the ingredients for success in there: Samardzija, Marmol, Wood, are a mirror image of Delcarmen, Okajima, Papelbon from last year: The kid having a great year, the sub-2 ERA set-up guy, and the strong closer.

I don't know. Why do you?

Why would I care about a league MVP or a Rookie of the Year? Awards mean nothing. As the Oakland Raiders used to say...JUST WIN, BABY!! My husband is a big fan of the Cleveland Indians. Do you think he was jumping for joy because C.C. Sabathia was the Cy Young winner? Especially after what that fatass did in the playoffs.

I hope the White Sox win the AL pennant. I like the Sox. I don't like you and your jealousy.

To Goodielover,

I'mnot counting the Brewers out, but after listening to the Cardinals on the radio all season, I can truthfully say if there is a way that the bullpen can lose a game, they'll find it!!!

Isring hausen has been a complete disaster this season, and I think this proves that bullpen by committee don't work. Granted the picters on the Cards have had a lot of injuries this season, but you can't ignore the fact that the bullpens just ain't getting it done.

Tampa and the Angels have an excellent chance, but I agree with the Fox announcers, in that the odds favor the Angels more than Tampa. Strictly on the experience factor. Still, though, Tampa seems to be in it for the long haul.Which is more than I can say for the Cards.

I disagree

The keys to winning a world series is middle relief, defense up the middle and timely hitting

Its hard for a SP to still be going deep into games after theyve piled on over 200 innings all season, lot of pitchers get burnt out

God you must be a typical delusional cub fan

Riddle me this, why would i be jealous of any cub fan or the team?
"Oh, we get national attention, we have fans"
Who cares? As i have repeatedly stated, id enjoy less fans at sox games, back in the day i could relax and not have to deal with ignorant sox fans who couldnt even name 3 players from the 2000 al central team.
I think your husband will be happy if cliff lee wins the cy young, esp with what he is doing compared to the rest of the team. Also, you dont dislike a player for a playoff showing, thats bandwagon all over it
"I only like my player if they win!"

Back to delusions, again you avoid my comment of cub fans trashing the field. Instead you link it to jealousy or something to that degree, next you will prob mention the terry gamboa incident to which i'll have to mention the chad kreuter incident\etc etc. Fact of the matter is you have cub fans who go only to be there, if they think a play is "wrong" they get pissy and throw shit on the field, disrupting the game. These are possibly the same fans who proclaim wrigley as a great place. That should be nullified the second they start throwing shit on the field which btw, started to get REAL noticed when Henry Rodriguez was on the team.

Btw, you oakland comment, if thats what you believe then stop blaming bartman as you have done in other threads relating to the cubs. Who cares about a fan, "JUST WIN!"

Im not gonna make a playoff prediction because many times the wildcard team has upset the league leader in both divisions and we'll have to see what teams do make it in and what the matchups are

What do you disagree with? The Cubs have had one of the best bullpens this year.

As far as SPs, certain guys won't be bothered by pitching over 200 innings. Who specifically will be burnt out? Lou knows they're in the playoffs, and will have all his guys rested.

Since my Cardinals are 10 games back and fading, what do you all think are the chances of a White Sox/Cubs World Series???

I will take your question literally. My estimations only:

Probability that the Cubs win the NL Pennant: 20%
Probability that the White Sox with the AL Pennant: 11%
Probability that both happen and thus they meet in the World Series: 2.2%

(The mathematically minded will note that I've treated them as independent events.)

No, don't ask to place a bet if you disagree with me. I am not a bookie. 😀

Yeah and with 20 or so games left in the season, no lead is safe for any team

God you must be a typical delusional cub fan

Thank you, kind sir. I know a compliment when I hear one. Being a Cubs fan is, as Hank Williams Jr. would say, a family tradition.

Riddle me this, why would i be jealous of any cub fan or the team?
"Oh, we get national attention, we have fans"
Who cares?

Obviously, you care.

As i have repeatedly stated, id enjoy less fans at sox games

How about fewer fans?

I think your husband will be happy if cliff lee wins the cy young

You think wrong. Who cares what Cliff Lee is doing when the team is mired in fourth place?

Also, you dont dislike a player for a playoff showing, thats bandwagon all over it "I only like my player if they win!"

In case you haven't noticed, pal, players rarely stay with one team for their whole careers. Where was your Jim Thome 10 years ago. Jermaine Dye? I could go on. Yes, I only care what the team does. Guilty as charged. The players are just mercenary soldiers.

Back to delusions, again you avoid my comment of cub fans trashing the field. You got me there. In fact, I remember the 1973 NL championship series, when Pete Rose of the Cincinnati Reds got into a fistfight in the infield of Shea Stadium with Bud Harrelson of the New York Mets. When Rose went to take his place in left field when the Mets were at bat, hundreds of Cubs fans showered him with garbage. What were all those Cubs fans doing in the left field upper deck of Shea Stadium? Did Leo Durocher buy a whole block of seats for the game and pass out tickets (plus hotel and airfare) on Rush Street?

Btw, you oakland comment, if thats what you believe then stop blaming bartman as you have done in other threads relating to the cubs. Who cares about a fan, "JUST WIN!"

The above paragraph makes no sense at all.

Im not gonna make a playoff prediction because many times the wildcard team has upset the league leader in both divisions and we'll have to see what teams do make it in and what the matchups are

Maybe you'll get lucky and the Cubs will turn into the Cubs again and you can mock me for being a lifelong fan.

No chance of a Cubs /White Sox series. Cubs are looking good to capture their first pennant in 63 years, but the White Sox, even if they hold off the Twins and win the AL Central, will not advance in the playoffs. The Rays and Angels are simply much better than them. Not to mention the Red Sox.

The sox have fared decently against the rays.

The cub fans now are having their worries since with 2-3 weeks left, zambrano has a dead arm and harden continues to be unable to get out of the 6th inning or so.

It will make a very exciting end for both divisions this year. The twins and sox tied and the brewers\sabathia on a mini tear while the cubs are in a slight slump

as for world series, hell, whens the last time a projected top team has won the series other than maybe boston?

As cool as it would be to see, the chances are quite slim. I am not going to knock the Cubs, because they DO have a good team, with strong pitching and a pretty balanced line-up ... it is actually the Sox that won't make it to the Series. The Twins are solid, The Angels are even more solid, and the Rays ... well they have the record that proves they can win, i don't know about in a 7 game series though ...

The Cubs have a legitimate shot at making it to the big show ... but the Mets are better (maybe I am a little biased though, I do happen to be a diehard Mets fan)

If I were a betting woman, I'd say the Red Sox and the Diamondbacks will play in the WS. I'm almost certain the Red Sox will be there, unless the NY Yankees can pull off a Yankee-style miracle (they've done it before). The Mets have a shot at the NL pennant, but I think it will be the D-backs.
