How does one leave the theater?

I don't particularly want to, but I may have to soon.

You simply find the will power to leave. Anyone could leave for any number of reasons, and many people do, we just don't realize it because they're not active members anyway. Whats sad is how much a hold a place like this has on a person and when people beg, plead, or cajole them not to leave, and that makes it hard to leave. By it's very nature it is a benign vice, and breaking away from it, especially if you need to, can be very difficult, albeit entirely possible.

I'm presuming though that someone who wants to leave such a site (whether perminently or temporarily) wants to leave the fetish community in general (ie- wants to make a life change), rather than just one site in it. That can be even harder to do, but again, is fully possible if you are above the influence of the community. It's important that you have positive reenforcement, particularly from the people here, as they send you off. It's also good to have a plan so as to not fall back into old patterns.

If you meant technically also, you could ask the site owner to delete your account. Usually this is possible, unless the owner doesn't have that board setting or chooses not to use it, even at the request of the user. At best, some owners will only be able to lock you out of your account/accounts, but some can and will do a full wipe if you so wish.

You sound like the gremlin in Gremlins 2 that drank the smart potion and started talking about being civilized. He shot another one in the head and said, "Now was that civilized? No."

Whatever you do, don't compromise your feelings or integrity. If you feel yourself being pulled in another direction, don't deny it and don't silence it or allow others to silence it for you. If you do, you'll probably live with a certain ammount of guilt or regret for a while.

Its better to start off with a clean slate, I think, than to have something nag and knaw at your conscience.

I was kind of tired. I was referring to how intelligently and compassionately you described the process of giving up the fetish, which no one reading this has done. I'm the same way, though.

That gremlin was being interviewed regarding being uncivilized, and he was speaking very intelligently (Tony Randall's voice), but shooting other gremlins to demonstrate his point.

I suppose I would know what to say and do if I ever decided to leave. I'm not held here by a fetish or anything, but if I should ever leave I've already prepared myself mentally and so forth so as to make that transition easier.
