Raiders are moving backwards

I am first to defend every decision Mr Davis and ultimately the Raiders make; but this decision is ridiculous - firing Coach Shell.

He had set a new level of discipline and only needed players who believed in it, obviously this decision has shown making so called superstars happy is more important them building a successful franchise in the eyes of Mr Davis.

I can't honestly see the Raiders pulling themselves out from the bottom of the AFC West for some time.......

At least I can look forward to Tha U doing some damage next season under Coach Shannon.

Let's just hope that Mr. Davis hires someone who will get the job done and stick around for a while. I don't really even know if it was a good idea for them to hire A. Shell again after all those years. It's time that he goes and finds some young and new for the job. With the right coach it can be turned around. Who knows, they may even get Bill Cowher to come out of retirement within the next year or so if things don't work out.

I agree and now it's definitely official. I was watching Jay Leno and the Oakland Raiders were used as a punchline. It used to be the NY Knicks and the LA Clippers. When a team is used as a comedy punchline on national television you can say they literally are a "joke".

Problem is, the Raiders have so many problems.. where do you start??

I kinda like the fact that the fake Raider fans have jumped off the band wagon since the superbowl appearance......we didn't need em anyway.....

I don`t think the Raiders will win until Al Davis either retires or dies. The game passed him by many years ago. He is in charge of player personal, and his draft picks are horrible. Frankly, I don`t know who would be interested in coaching them, its not a very attractive job.

You are right jaba,nothing will change untill Mr. Davis is gone.He is not liked here in K.C. of course,but he was one of the pioneers of the AFL along with Lamar Hunt.The old guard is almost gone,and i wonder if the new generation of owners are more concerned with their personal profit or the good of the NFL overall.

It is the latter i fear in to many cases,and one must wonder what will happen to the game as this new ownership takes power.

ever since they left Los Angeles and talked a bunch of sh*t on their way out about Los Angeles, i wanted to see the Raiders suffer. nothing was sweeter than watching Tampa Bay beat the holy hell out of the Raiders in the SuperBowl. nothing is sweeter than watching then go 2-14. i hope they never see the light of day again. R.I.P. Raider organization.....

Al's handling of personnel reminds me of the Cardinals...when old Mrs. Bidwell used to go through the college yearbooks and pick out the "handome boys" to play for the Cards. That worked well. About as well as protecting guys like Randy Moss over a coach just getting things together.

I agree with you 100% on this one!!! Art Shell was the BEST thing that they had going for them this season!!!

Well, it is sad to see the Oakland Raiders fall apart like this, but I believe what needs to happen for them is that they need to take Rob Ryan, the defensive coordinator, and make him head coach even though he is not an offensive guy and Al loves offensive guys, and hire Jim Fassel to take over that offense. If anything, that's the only thing I see really working in Oakland. Also, Bobby Petrino is the head coach of Louisville, and he's done some damage since being the head coach over there. He's a college offensive mastermind.

Quarterback issue - Aaron Brooks doesn't fit, Mr Walter is a rookie - do they go after Jamarcus? Maybe Tate? Brohm?

They need a whole new defense, rid themselves of Porter at receiver, and just go back to the bruising ball control and ball hawk team - I am sure Howie Long and Lyle Alzado, along with Ken Stabler and Bolitnikoff are just sickened. Real Men Wear Black - guess lately, real men are mourned in Oakland. Should we rid of Al Davis?

The defense was good this year because of the players - simple. Sapp was a vocal leader and the youth and speed on this team is second to none.

The Raiders need fresh blood at Head Coach, the offensive coordinator at USC is being interviewed for the position - he reminds me a lot of Gruden.
