One of these days a close friend of mine was surfing the Net searching for the meaning of some usual names we all know and hear, and some others as well. After a pretty while trying to find mine's significance, he managed to find out what it meant...
"Possess Good" = Dario. In greek or Persian if i recall... If i might add i was positively surprised by this new discovery. :Hyrdrogen

So i was wondering if any of you know what's the real meaning of your name...

goodies is my code word for feet

When i was 15-17 i told my best gal friend bout my fetish and was the first person to let me explode\indulge in it. So as a joke code word so that it could maybe be said in semi\public, i started callin em goodies

my real name is nicole and lot of the time it's origin is usually listed as greek or french. but overall the agreement is that it means 'people's victory'.

i like my name and am glad my mom chose to name me nicole instead of jennifer. no offense to any women here named jennifer but i know more jennifers than i do nicoles. 😀

the meaning of isabeau

my other fetish

As a lover of language and names, word meanings and name origins are of particular interest to me.

The name "Stephanie" as well as "Stephen" and it's "ph" containing derivatives come from the Greek word "stephanos" meaning "crown". Interestingly the very first martyr in Christian history was the deacon "Stephen" (or in the original Greek text "Stephanos"). Crowns are considered emblems of not only royalty but martyrdom in the Christian tradition (ergo the crown on thorns on Christ at the crucifixion as well as the use of symbolic crowns to this day in Orthodox Christian marraige rites). So this name literally translates "the crowned one". The male name "Steve" can be a shortening of the name "Stephen" with a "ph giving it the same origin as above, but if from the name "Steven" with a "v" this comes from the Greek word "stavros" meaning "cross" (again as in the cross of Christ which Christians consider their symbol of faith and victory over evil and death).

The name "Andrew" comes from the Greek word "andron" or "andros" meaning "man". We see this in the words "androgen" a word referring to testosterone and other male hormones, and "androgynous" a word meaning "having the characteristics of both male [andros] and female [gyneka or gyno]". This name ergo simply means "man" and takes its origins from the earliest Koine Greek language spoken two and a half millenia ago, surviving into our language today.

Sorry, but you hit on the Professor's other fetish so I have waxed on a bit!

With humblest regards,

As for my screename, just sound it out....you'll get the meaning soon enough. 😉

First Name:
1. Iain Gaelic Gaelic form of John.
2. Iain Scottish Scottish variant of Ian: 'Gift from God'

I already knew the first one, my mum's side of the family are jocks, HIGHLAND jocks at that, so I had to have a gaelic name, and John means "God's Grace". I didn't know about the second definition of Iain though, but now my "God's Gift" strut has some weight behind it :dog:

Middle name:
1. Francis Latin From 'franciscus' meaning Frenchman. Famous bearers: St Francis of Sales who is patron saint of writers, St Francis of Assisi who founded the Franciscan order of friars, navigator Sir Francis Drake, and philosopher Francis Bacon.
2. Francis Shakespearean 'King Henry IV, Part 2' Francis Feeble, a country soldier. 'King Henry IV, Part 2' A drawer. 'Much Ado About Nothing' Friar Francis.
3. Francis Teutonic Free.

So I am God's Gift, the Free Frenchman.

And last but not least:

We're sorry, the name "headsnap" is not in our records.

I was on another forum, long before the TMF existed, and I didnt' know what I was doing, it was right after I first got onto the internet. So I realized that to see everything on the forum I needed to join. I didn't think I was ever going to post or anything, so while I was filling out the fields to join, and it asked me what name I wanted, I just picked "non" as in non-member (because at that moment I wasn't a member of the forum).

Well, turns out I started posting and everything. Then the TMF sprang into existence and for some reason it wouldn't let me call myself "non" so I just added the "tkl" and the rest is...history!

My names in no particular order mean:

Short sword or dagger, Gifted Ruler or People Ruler.
Brave (or perhaps "drunk", it's been rumored...) on the Rhein River.
Bright Sea, Lives by the Sea, Dweller of the Sea, or Fighter of the Sea.

Damn, I rock. 😀
