In World War 2 over 60 Million dogs died. Does anyone know why or how?

Tron

Most of them probably died from starvation, the rest during bomb attacks and the resulting fires. And who says that all 60 million were killed? Dogs have a shorter life, and the war lasted for 5 and a half years.

Anyhow, that doesn't bother me half as much as the 40 million people who were KILLED during the war!

Yeah..

And over 30 million of those people were killed by Germans...

Actually the Russians and Germans kept very good records of dogs killed. When the Germans started their unwarranted war of aggression against the Russian the Soviets didn't have good anti tank guns. So after they captured a German Tank they trained dogs to eat their dinner under the tanks. In fact Russian Dogs were one of the best fed beings in Russia at the time. The day prior to an expected German offensive they'd starve the dogs. When the German tanks would cross the front they'd place mines with mag triggers on the back of the dog. The dogs would see the tanks, thing food then run under the tank and boom. Since dogs were viwed as weapons by the Soviets they kept excellent records of dogs expened
One of the first things the SS would do when clearing a town is round up the dogs and shoot them. They kept records of this.
German Army soldiers had to be specifically briefed to not shoot dogs when they were on leave. They got so used to shooting dogs on sight that they'd do so when away from the front

Good old Tronny!!........

....with the top facts there! I can rest easy in my bed knowing the answer to that little teaser, "proper Bo! ah tell thee"

"Another WW2 story involves the Russo-German conflict. The
Russians tried to devolop top secret "Dog Mines". They would
train dogs to associate the bottoms of tanks with food. They
would then tie mines to the dogs backs and let them loose when
the Germans advanced. Unfortunately, the dogs only associated
food with the underside of Russian tanks, and the plan was
abandonned after it's first trial. "

So..How would this method account for the deaths of 60 million dogs as is the premise of your original question. You asked if anyone knew how the 6o million dogs died. Only about 10,000 died in this manner.
I am sure thousands died by the hands of German soldiers and others died in service as mine detectors and messengers, however, I find it hard to believe that 60 million died as results of this, so how about providing an answer as to how the rest died.

Is it true that you can get rabies from eating infected dog meat? I'd think that would explain things a little in this thread. 🙄
