What do you do when you need a break from the daily grind life can become? There are a few obscure parks in Travis County and Austin I visit. Most of the time I'm the only one there. At one of them I can sit at a picnic table under a shade tree and read while watching the Colorado River flow by.

In the city this is my favorite spot, http://www.mayfieldpark.org/ and most people in Austin don't know it is there. It's so calm, quite and peaceful. A visit to a library or museum also helps.

If it's nice and I can run away for a bit, there's a nice state park I like. It's a natural park witout all the extra stuff that gets added to most parks. One outhouse and a rough trail are the only indication that it's any more than wild. I just sit on the rocks at the base of the waterfall, or in the middle of the creek upstream a bit if there are others around, and enjoy the peace and quiet. If I can't get away or the weather is bad, I just put on some quiet music and relax at home. If I'm also hurting a lot, I'll combine the quiet music with a nice hot sage bath and a smoke.

I drive and listen to music. And usually sing...badly...and loudly. I'm quite the source of entertainment for people around me at red lights, though 😛

Two shots of Jäger. Then, hand out by the poolside with a book and one, two or more Bud Lights.

Yup.

Though lately I've been hitting every note of every song I try to scream. So it kind of turned into a hobby. Still helps though and I get better every day.... I think.

Generally, I just need some time to myself. TV or video games usually can do the trick, or driving around aimlessly.

bubble bath + facial mask + some type of wine cooler

that sounds much needed tonight. i think i might when i get home from work. 🙂

if I can just get sometime to myself, I just love to walk through the city streets downtown. grab a cup of coffee and just walk.

I do this at least once a year, but I take an extended break from most technology other then a cell phone for emergencies and tv at night.

I take a month or more to get away from it all. I disconnect myself from the internet because I believe people rely on it far too much.

An example is that before I knew this site existed; I had to use my imagination. It still works to this day I believe because I don't rely on the internet all the time. I love to get away from it all and observe others who are constantly texting, typing, and other technological expressions.

I challenge anyone on here to do this. Pick 30 days that you will not use a compute for internet use. Students can try this during the summer or whenever they have an extended break from class.

It is an absolute refresher to go on a hike in the forest, bike ride, or just enjoy nature. You come back a month later all recharged and plus you missed a month of threads on this site which give you A LOT to look at.

I do this three times a year, for about a week each time. As plugged in as I am at home, I thought this would be very difficult before I started doing it, but it's very refreshing.

I accept the challenge. Now I just have to decide which 30 days...
