Red Wings Jiri Fischer hospitalized

Red Wings defenseman Jiri Fischer coming off of a shift was on the bench and had a seizure. Nashville whom the Red Wings were playing had just taken a 1-0 lead in the 1st period. Fischer who has had irregular heartbeat in the past went into a convulsion on the bench only 1 minute and 2 seconds after Nashville scored. Play was halted with 7 minutes and 30 seconds to play in the 1st period. Fischer had to be defibrillated as CPR was performed. Fischer was transported to Detroit Receiving Hospital where he is in stable condition. The Detroit Red Wings and the Nashville Predators game ( a HUGE game for both teams ) was postponed with no make-up date announced.

Great job by you amk714. Sadira and I are both praying for a speedy recovery for Fischer. Since she is a Red Wings fan it was rather disturbing for her to watch tonight's event. Being a nurse as she is a lot of thoughts ran through her head as Fischer went into that seizure.

Thanks, TF4F. I didn't even know about this news until I found it at the Yahoo! website. I can't imagine what it must've been like for the fans at the game. I only hope Jiri is all right and that he'll still be able to play. It's a good thing the seizure didn't turn into something more serious.

I sure hope he's okay as well 🙁 What a horrible turn of events. I'm glad the game was stopped.... no one would have been able to play under those circumstances 🙁 He's a damn good player too, Jiri. I pray for a speedy recovery and though hockey comes second, hope he can resume his career eventually 🙁

Sometimes, I think I know too much for my own good. Seeing that and then hearing, even just the bits of details, sets me on edge. (...shivers at the thought). I do hope the seizure or the fact that his heart did stop, DOES NOT take him out for good. But, I'm sure he's going to be seeing lots of specialists and having lots of tests over the next couple of days.

Are you saying that you think Jiri should give up hockey? I want him to do whatever is best, and I know you're a nurse and are worried about his health, but I believe he should continue to play if the doctors clear him. He's only 25, and it would be a shame if this incident causes him to give up the game he loves. Sorry if I seem insensitive; that's just my opinion.

By all accounts, he's in good shape today 🙂 Still undergoing further tests.... I imagine it will be some time before he suits up again, though 🙁
