it has to do with reformatting a hard drive. the scenario is as follows:
my current system is a work station, not a pc. it has a Seagate Cheetah 36GB SCSI hard drive that is running out of space with all the mp3's (usually archived entire CD's) and such I download to it. I also re-archive the mps'3 back and move them to a special folder for sharing, after I've converted all the files to 128kbps, to assist in conserving disc space. (I have 1GB of RAM, and using XP Pro w/ SP2, if that is of helpful information)
I also have a Seagate Barracuda 80GB ATA hard drive that a friend gave to me after an upgrade. I tried using it internally, but had so many problems because it still has an OS and other programs/files on it, and SCSI's and ATA's don't appear to get along with each other if plugged into the same computer internally. even with going into the BIOS and making the SCSI drive the boot drive, the system would just lock up when powering up.
Just yesterday brilliance reared it's head, and I came up with this idea to go get an external USB hard drive enclosure and try that. well it worked, but the problem now is ...how can/do I reformat it to get all those old files off of it? as I write this, Windows Disk Clean Up is running, cleaning up drive F, but good lord is it taking forever! I thought for sure Windows had a reformating tool, but I looked in accessories and found nothing.
Does anyone have any thoughts/ideas on this, or knows of program that would do this? Is there something within Windows that would reformat the external drive?
Another ? Is USB 2.0 software that can be downloaded? I have USB ports, but none of them are high speed 2.0, as I just found.
Thanks in advance.
