Refs ruining the level of competition in NBA finals

I am not going to pretend that I know all that much about basketball, but does it seem to anyone else that the refs are getting way too quick to blow the whistle? I was listening to a sports radio show that I tune into frequently the other day and they were appalled at how many fouls were called in the first game of the finals. Tonight in game 2, KG and Kobe were hardly on the court for most of the night because they were in foul trouble before the end of the second quarter. To me it ruins the fun of watching the game when every time a team goes up court a whistle blows and another player is called for some non-shooting foul because his hand barely grazed the jersey of the opposing player.

I agree with you. While I cant claim to have seen the whole game, and I'm not as much into the NBA as I am into major league baseball, I still consider myself a quasi-NBA fan. I did watch part of Game 2 of the Finals, and it seemed like the refs were calling a lot of rackytack fouls, and fouls where there was almost no contact. While I understand the refs have to do their jobs, it seems to me that they should let the players just play a little bit, and not call every single bit of contact, as the teams need their best players on the court to win, and the fans have a right to see the superstars on both teams for as much of the game as possible, without having everyone in foul trouble all night.

Bad officiating by the refs, in my opinion. Hopefully they wont call it as tight in Game Three.

They seem to be calling the finals pretty tight, but overall they seem like they are calling it pretty good.

No rebounds, no rings......

Some of the calls were bad, like many games, and I think the refs should let teams really play in the finals, but my Lakers cant use poor officiating for the loss, when a 6-1 point guard (Rondo) has more rebounds than your 7 foot center (Bynum) and nearly as many as your 7 foot power forward (Gasol).

When their point guard gets as many boards as your big men, you deserve to lose.

Reffing in the NBA has been lousy since Jordan retired (and even then it was fairly bad in the last of his time with the Bulls)

I mean, Bennett Salvatore and the 06 Finals anyone?

Not letting the players get the least bit physical completely ruins watching a basketball game. I can't stand the constant stop and start style that the game has turned into. With the conspiracy looming over their heads, you would think that the refs would be working harder at making the right calls and not just calling everything. Also, since when does a 20 or 40 second time out turn into an opportunity for 3 minutes worth of a commercial break. Exactly how far delayed is television in compliance to the actual live game going on?

With you there Cy, Ive given up on the NBA since the two biggest screw job in the NBA (2002 WCF Kings vs. Lakers and the 2006 Finals Mavericks vs. Heat).

We should just accept the fact that as long as David Stern is commissoner the NBA is going to be screwed up.
