A tree-hugging environmentalist named Sally received a modest inheritence and decided to use the money to purchase a small patch of forest in Northern California.
Driving to the area in her low-polluting hybrid Prius vehicle, she spotted a tall tree at the high point of the property she had purchased.
She decided to climb the tree so she could scope out the new property she owned.
Halfway up the tree, she became frightened by a battle between two spotted owls and a bald eagle. She slid rapidly down the tree, and in so doing, got lots of painful splinters in her private area.
She raced to the nearest country doctor, who ushered her into an exam room with the promise to return soon to administer treatment.
Two hours went by. Then three hours.
Finally the doctor entered the exam room, ready to help poor Sally.
Sally loudly demanded the reason for the delay
The doctor explained that he'd needed to obtain permits from the EPA, the California Department of Forestry, the Federal Bureau of Land Management, and the California Coastal Commission in order to legally remove old-growth forest from a recreational area.
