This Memorial Day, try to take some time to reflect upon our fathers and grandfathers who fought so bravely to preserve our freedom during World War II. All of our country's war veterans during every war should be hailed as heroes. Focusing on World War II, there are those who take for granted what these great men and women attained in providing the ultimate sacrifice for their country. No words can express the gratitude that we owe these heroes. We are all very fortunate to live in a generation where many of these heroes are still living; enabling us to learn directly from them. Do not listen to the liberal media try to trivialize the fact that these men and women saved the free world. Do not allow the rampant liberal thinking in our schools to strike from our children's history books the fact that our heroes stopped evil in it's tracks. No matter what your political persuasion is, if you see a WWII Veteran, thank him and show a little humility. After all, even those who hate our country yet live here would not have a voice if it weren't for our veterans. Remember that they fought and died for your freedom.

Happy Memorial Day!

A simple memorial thread.........

.......would be fine, but jim goes a little further. WW2 had nothing what so ever to do with preserving the "freedom" of Americans. Evil was stopped in its tracks by Britain, (we turned up on time remember?)

It is simply impossible for a Brit to think of WW2 without mentioning the massive contribution of the U.S. Why are Americans incapable of returning the favour?

Britain is still paying the U.S. back under the terms of "lend lease" which is more then the Germans or the Japanese have ever done. So spare me the moral lectures guys.

We finish payments in 2007 I believe.(Worth every penny....or dime)

Yes, I, of course thank all WW2 vets...there are fewer and fewer every day. My late grandfather fought in the infantry in Mark Clark's army, inching their way up the boot, mile by bloody, painful mile. My great uncle manned a 5"/.38 on the Nicholas(DD-449).

I would also like to thank living members of the Resistance movements in France and the Netherlands and in Norway and everywhere else the Nazis clamped under their jackboot. These people lived twenty four seven not knowing if their next meal might be their last...if their actions might bring a terrible retribution on their families. If not for their help, we might not have succeeded in opening the second front in Europe, much less making the world safe for the Liberal Media 😛

I'd like to thank surviving Filipinos who tell what it was like living in the earthbound hell that was the Japanese occupation, and how they prayed each and every day for American forces to liberate them from it...

Most importantly, I would thank all the vets who fought for Old Glory in all corners of the earth since the Second World War...in the frozen, hellish landscape of Chosin, at Da Nang and in Khe Sanh and Hue... and in the Persian Gulf.

I reserve special thanks, though...for our friends. Our friends who were evacuated from Dunkirk and lived to fight another day. Our friends who slept in the tube in between the bombs and lost neighbors and family members and cousins in the firestorming of Coventry, our friends who lived in fear of the V-1s and V-2s and sent their children off to live with complete strangers in the country, who put out fires started by incendiaries at four in the morning, our friends who worked 20 hours a day in war munitions factories that had little or no heat, who lived for a whole six years in a country where no lights could be seen at night, who lived with the most spartan food and clothing rationing. Our friends, who, at the most grave of hours, chose to go it alone, regardless of the consequences, who would never give up. Our friends, no greater ally on God's Green Earth, that realm, that blessed plot, that England.

Memorial Day's for them, too. And all others who have sacrificed.

May God Bless all the brave men and women who fought to protect each one of us during those wars no matter where they came from. It is a massive show of teamwork that amazes us all as our respective countries fight side by side for the good of the masses.

My father, and 4 of my uncles fought in WWII. A cousin fought in Vietnam and a dear friend in our community was in the Gulf War.

Although I didn't lose anyone to a war, the impact was remained or remains. The pride of being in the service always shows through.

I am SO thankful for them being brave enough to put their lives on the line for me... and for you!

Your silent tents of green
We deck with fragrant flowers;
Yours has the suffering been,
The memory shall be ours.

Excellent thread, Jimblast. My father and six of my uncles fought in World War II. My other two uncles worked in the Brooklyn Navy Yard building ships. God bless all who served in the war against fascism.

The memorial to the veterans of that war should have come sooner; only two of my uncles, now in their 80's, are still alive to see it dedicated.

Indian.....I think your history books are wrong...

Not to take away from our British and Russian brothers and sisters during WWII, but rest assured if the U.S. hadn't entered that war, we may all be speaking German these days. Yes, it was about preserving freedom as you might want to ask anyone of Jewish pursuasion during that era. None of us would have a voice on any forum if it wasn't for these brave men and women. I think you ought to be the very first in line to thank war veterans. Everything that you and I have can be attributed to their sacrifices. Not recognizing that fact is shameful. By the way, those same naysayers in that time who didn't want us to go to war with the evil axis were on the wrong side of history then, just like those lobbying against the tough fight in Iraq for political purposes are on the wrong side of history today. We are the only country who will give these countries back to their people. But focusing on WWII, they deserve our thanks and their sacrifices should not be demeaned in any way. America saved those countries and the vast majority of people of that generation from those same countries consider our vets heroes. It's a shame the more recent generations tend to forget while reaping the benefit of their sacrifice.

You know Red,I still want to know how the war in Europe was our responsibility to fight It amazes me how Europeans won't say a word about us fighting in the european civil wars twice last century, but they will criticize us about being in places like Iraq or Vietnam
Japan attacked us We had a right to go to war with them Nazi Germany did not attack us
