It's obvious that you don't own the game, as you say.
Despite the fact that the people you are working with are complete strangers, you'd be amazed at how well you would work together. It's very rare that a team of four will leave one behind. No one wants to see a colleague get eaten alive, and if they die, there goes the extra backup that PC (player character) provided.
Another advantage of the game is that there are very few verbal commands to be issued to other players. Broken down, they are: Go, Wait, Thanks, Help me!, Yes, No, Follow me, and one call for each PC you are working with so you can get one individual's attention. This way you can keep the banter to a minimum and the ability to communicate to a maximum.
Also, some people are natural leaders, and some are followers. In a game like this, these differences become incredibly evident. I often wind up leading the group, with the other PC's covering me while I rush through a group of the undead to obtain a special object, or to procure weapons, ammo, or key items. You just need to play the game online for a while to truly appreciate how well you can work with others.
