While every company has a different policy on this, I have a question. If someone has sent a resume in response to an advertised opening, how long would you wait before you called the company to find out your status? I've sent out several, including one that said NO PHONE CALLS. (They wrote in caps too.) Anyone have any input on this? Thanx

Depends really.

If the company you're applying too is a big, multi-national one then you should really receive a reply within 2 - 3 weeks. But if it's like a little branch of shops then a reply would be quicker (I think).

I would tend to agree. Smaller places, a week. Bigger places, I would not wait more than two weeks, unless the application says otherwise.

Also, for bigger places, if you call after two weeks and they say that they haven't looked at you app. yet, then wait another week and call back. If they say the same, then I wouldn't call back.

Good luck job hunting, I know it sucks.

Thats a good question, since some businesses use tactics such as making you wait longer so you become more desperate, before they hire you. They want to see how far you can be tried in the scouting, application, and interviewing process, as, in their opinion, this is a sign of what they can expect to be able to get away with once they hire you. They want to see how submissive you are.

If we're talking honest, legitimate waiting for a legitimate and well-established business, I'd say give it a month. If you get no calls back, it means they weren't interested and found someone more qualified or they chose a favorite.....spun a bottle....pulled straws.....see who could fart the loudest....and so forth...

One week from the time the resume gets there. I wouldn't wait too much longer. You want to display great interest in working for them. Bug them. In the case where the ad said NO CALLS, I'd give it an extra week and call them anyway. You can't wait forever on this kind of thing. Show interest in the companies you apply to.
