No more bob rock, than God...

Hopefully this one will be more like the pre-black album stuff.

For those who don't know, Rick Rubin produces Slayer, System of a Down ect...

What do the Metallica fans think?

Yeah yeah yeah... :firedevil

If they get back to their roots then I'll be smokin whilst listening to it, they gotta get back to the rawness and power, ohhhh please!!!! 😛

So rubin produced 1 good band?(slayer) lol

Metallica is past its age, there is no way they could return to their sound pre in justice for all and all the music has sounded the same\declined since that album. Hetfield cant pull his vocals like he used to and the void at bass is saddening.

I agree to some of what you have said that they can't return to their 'Kill em all', 'Ride the Lightning' and 'Master of Puppets' era, but I believe they still have it.

After seeing them live several times, for me if a band can kick it live then they have still got something. I do miss the bass as you have said as Jason was so fuckin awesome on recordings but life he was manic, just a great sight to behold.

I think with James/Lars/Kirk their lyrics are meaningful and I for one will not write them off, I hold a fondness for them and I can't wait to see them again soon at least with a new album on its way a tour hopefully will soon follow :bouncybou

One good band? System of a down's Toxicity is a classic album, as is the Red Hot Chili Peppers' Bloodsugarsexmagic. Rubin produced both those masterpieces. As for the lack of a bass sound, Robert Trujillo didn't even play on St. Anger, so we don't even know what that would've sounded like until the new album comes out.

System and the chillis are my two favourite bands so in my eyes anything Rick Rubin touches is worth a good listen.

Rubin also did Ballbreaker by AC/DC, which had a great sound. I think this will be Metallica's best album in years, but I am doubtful that it will sound even in the same league as the pre-black era, but it's still fuckin Metallica!! Rock on.

shit.. an awesome producer or not, there is no way metallica is ever going to put out another cd worthy of being called a metallica cd.. when they put out st. anger, i got it.. i was like WHOA NEW METALLICA IT MUST BE GOOD.. and 30 minutes later, i threw the cd out the window (literally.. rolled down the window and threw it out)

this new guy they have been using at bass will in no way shape or form ever be close to cliff or jason.. i dont know if this guy is just friends with them or if their view of talent is that disillusioned.. but he is terrible.. hes a bass player.. not a bassist.. i dont know if james will be able to come up with the same type of catchy lyrics and crazy shit, or if he will be able to use his voice as well as he could back in the day.. im not looking forward to more of kirk's 'all in the same blues scale' solos.. i stopped being impressed by him a long time ago.. and lars ulrich.. i cant even begin to tell you all how many times i have had a laugh at that guys expense.. i cant listen to a metallica song without laughing at his drumming.. and id like to elbow his face off.. so.. i dont think ill be getting the new metallica cd, unless i hear something worthwhile.. rubin cant work miracles..

I think SOAD has been trash with everything after their first album. After that the music was nothing impressive and too political. Plus they come off as huge pricks if you have seen any of their interviews on Fuse or other music stations

Live apparently they are still amazing, but bear in mind, they play mostly their older stuff and little of the new stuff. As for bassist, no one can replace burton and newstead did decent for what he was

i agree that more often than not, a bands first album is usually their best, but system has stayed on the cutting edge as far as their sound. yea i have seen their interviews, and i can see how they might rub someone the wrong way, but its all a part of their humor. they are no different than most other bands that act like dicks in interviews either by giving sarcastic answers or picking on the interviewer, its better than the posers that try and give politically correct answers all the time.

and again i agree, there will never be another cliff burton....he is the best, and both he and jason had amazing stage presence. however, all im saying about robert is wait and see what he can do in the studio. ive heard his stuff with suicidal tendencies, infectious grooves, and ozzy, hes more than capable playing wise. metallica themselves even said, the songs havent been played this good since cliff, if anyone would know it would be them, not anyone of us that hasnt sold millions of records....plus i gotta support my brown people.

metallica ruined thmeselves and their music the second they sold out to those scum who have destroyed music and the music scene. MTV. the scourge of the music world. they have been nothing but sellouts since. i will never remember back in1986 when someone turned me onto ride the lightning, i will never forget that sound.
tragic

Ah yes, Metallica. The fellows who spent years building up a rebellious, rowdy, in-your-face image... And then randomly sued half of the internet users in the country when they thought Napster was cutting into their bottom line.

I think I'd rather eat a warm shit sandwich than buy their new album.

I don't hold out any hopes on metallica's new album, St Anger was rank.
But aside from that metal in general is becoming shit. its just the same old shit. I haven't heard any good new bands in about 3 years. mainly because its become far too mainstream. It is a shame really i tend to listen to hardcore bands these days although even that is startin to go down the same road.

But back to the main point, Metallica are a shadow of the band they once were. No they're just middle aged men wantin to get some cash from the 12 year olds who still think they are the best thing since sliced bread.

If the new album gets released, I'll download it for free, burn a few hundred copies, and freely distribute them. 😀

There are some good bands with musical talent still circulating, trivium, devil driver, cowboys from hell(which is\was pantera but with david allen coe) and some other bands, u just need to look for them tho

I'll put it this way.... Rick Rubin is an excellent producer. He was especially good with the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

Then again, my favorite album by Metallica was the Black Album which Bob Rock produced. I like what Bob did with The Cult, but I'm probably one of ten people that liked "Ceremony" by that band.

Anyway, Metallica will forever be crap in my mind ever since they made a big deal out of Napster. They've shown their true corporate ***** colors, and I have no respect for them. It was bad enough that they've been releasing crap albums ever since Reload, but the fact that they fired up the RIAA into suing grandmothers is enough to make me sick.

Besides, there are plenty of other metal bands that have aged far more gracefully....
