I am a three digit number.
My tens digit is five more than my ones digit.
My hundreds digit is eight less than my tens digit.
What number am I?

could you please translate that in english?
 
okay think of it this way:

__ __ __

to find what the 3-digit number is (from 100 to 999), you try trial and error.
pick a number for the third blank

ex: _ _ 4 (for this example it's 4)

the second blank is 5 more than the third blank, you add 5 to 4.
(4 + 5 = 9)

ex: _ 9 4

the first blank is 8 less than the second blank, you subtract 8 from 9 (the number you had gotten for the second blank)
(9 - 8 = 1)

ex: 1 9 4

and there you have a 3-digit number

ex: 194
