Joe Garagiola had an undistinguished career as a catcher in the Major Leagues, playing for the Cardinals. But he is in the Baseball Hall of Fame as a broadcaster. He entertained fans for over 50 years with his stories. He is a link to one of his obituaries:

As a child, I had one of his books, Baseball is a Funny Game, in paperback. It was published in 1960. I read and reread it so many times that it finally fell apart.

Rest In Peace, Mr. Garagiola.

I remember him as a broadcaster - half ways bald, but always entertaining. Can't say the new commentators are quite on a par with him. RIP, Joe.

Two baseball legends, former catchers, and old friends from St. Louis, Yogi and Joe G., both gone at 90 within half a year of each other.

Still, sad though it is, 90 is a pretty long time to live!

Yup, I can still hear his signature voice in my head from so many years ago. RIP Joe.
