Well, seems like we have a fair share of wrestling fans here on the boards, and I just finished watching this years Rumble on p-p-p. Wasn't impressed to tell you the truth, only the main event was worth watching, everything else sucked balls. Its like they're not letting them wrestle each other any more. Ah well. What did you lot think? And what are your predictions for WMXX? We've got Goldberg and the Big Baby (you know who I mean) pegged for a title match, and maybe Benoit (sp) and Angle for some sort of clash too.

Head unclear though. Still trying to get over the numbing effect of watching Tripsy and Owen "wrestle" each other. Bleh.

I assume Michaels lost to triple h? If so, that f***ing sucks. The greatest wrestler of all time (Micheals) losing to Triple H, one of the worst of all time? Gimme a damn break. :sowrong:

Krok, you didn't miss much on that one m8. Both wrestlers were showing there age/injuries by the end of the first 10 minutes. what's worse though is the fact that all the other fights that came before it were cut short so that more time could be allocated to H's posturing. Makes you sick, eh?

If it makes you feel any better, the match was classed as a draw, neither man survived the last 10-count, although Micheals got up from a Pedigry and Sweet-chinned H down to the mat. He also walked away from the ring after the match ended, whereas H was in a stretcher. Moral victory 🙂

Thats a good thing to hear. I've always loved Michaels. Always been my favorite wrestler. Now, if only the hitman were still wrestling...

The Royal Rumble wasn't too bad, it just didn't get going until 9pm with the HBK/Preparation H match. That was really bloody but wasn't horrible.
The Eddie/Chavo match was fair, at least Eddie won and got some retribution on both Chavo Jr. and Sr.
THe Brock/Holly match was a joke, it was so short. Nidia is still blind, looks like she waits a little longer to get her sight back, lol.
The Rumble itself was very good, Randy Orton was a target for every wrestler who entered, including Mick Foley who made his return as entrant 21. It was also interesting to see Jr. and Tazz calling a match.

I was in the crowd last night, but found most of the show forgettable, because the matches were barely there. Eddie vs. Chavo was especially disappointing, because it ended just as it was starting to get good -- that's not how you blow off the hottest feud on Smackdown. I'm actually hoping for a rematch at No Way Out so they can get the time to do it properly.

HBK/Triple H had its moments, like Michaels' Asai moonsault through the Spanish announce table -- but for all the blood, I didn't find it as entertaining as their match at Summerslam 2002 or even their match on Raw a few weeks ago. And that bullshit ending took away a lot of goodwill.

The Rumble was terrific, though -- easily the best since 2001, and maybe even better than that one. Lots of little stories going on, few dead spots, and the right guy won; Benoit slowly pulling the Big Show over the ropes was a really dramatic finish. And Mick Foley came back, so I'm happy.

We (Lazzy and I) did not bother ordering this PPV, because we had a gut feeling beforehand that it was going to be another poor product. That seems to have become WWE's norm lately. :sowrong:

We did get all of the results immediately afterward though, and as soon as we did, unfortunately, we realized our prediction was dead on.

I can not believe the Brock/Holly match only lasted 6 minutes. What the hell is up with that? And while I was glad to see the HHH/HBK match was a long hard fought one, to end it in a draw seemed to be a slap in the face for WWE fans. We were thrilled to see that Benoit won the Royal Rumble....this is a great wrestle who has MORE than paid his dues, and a proper push is well overdue for him. But we all know they will not put the belt on him, so in a sense, what's the point? The only way they can justify Benoit's win, is if they actually let him have the title, if even for a short while. He truly deserves it.

I don't know that we will see Goldberg in Wrestlemania. His contract is up next month, and both Lazzy and I have a strong suspicion they will NOT be renewing it. Which is a shame, IMO, because despite his obvious flaws, I do really like Goldberg. And they need more title contenders on Raw.

We were very happy to learn that Foley made a comeback last night, though. We were wondering how the hell they were going to repair the damage done by Foley's walk out several weeks ago, and it seems that they righted the wrongs brought forth, in the best way possible.

I seriously hope McMahon gets his priorities straight before Wrestlemania. If he screws up that PPV, it could be potentially dangerous for the future of the WWE.

Yeah, the Brok match was terrible, but then again my house (4 of us, all big wrestle fans) loathe the big baby, which says something about his abilities as a heel I'm sure. Owens splash was well off the mark, btw: It cleared Trip's head by a mile, although the contact he made with the table *did* look pretty brutal.

As for Goldberg...he got knocked out of the rumble by an intervention from Brock following a small war-of-words in the dressing room, so we're figuring that he's going to get one last title-push to make sure WMXX sells. One of my housemates was explaining to me that Benoit will never win the title because he's 2 inches too short (this true?), so we're figuring he'll get a big match-up, but no title shot. A real shame, too. I always liked him.

somewhat unrelated but -

i haven't really become a wrestling fan. nevertheless, i do recognize some of the players.

a few years back i was attending a NJ devils' stanley cup playooff game, and happened upon a group of kids bothering someone for an autograph. there, only 10 rows in front of me, was Goldberg.

i couldn't resist asking him how it is that a nice jewish boy got into this schtick. we laughed and told stories about growing up with typical jewish mother types - loving and protective.

he said he gets a real hoot out of his mother down in florida these days - she's a little bit of a thing, and she goes around telling people things like" "oy! my son the wrestler!".

Benoit...

Is headed for Raw, and will, odds are, fight Triple H for the title at WMXX....

2 inches too short?

He's the same height, or extremely close, to Bret Hart...

Brock is moving on to a feud with Eddie, and Angle is headed for a heel turn....

But you didn't hear any of this from me....

To continue where Laz left off, here is some more news: Benoit is headed to RAW, and he will finally win the title. Goldberg is headed to Smackdown, to battle Brock, but will be gone right after WMXX. The Rock will be back soon, and by summer Evolution will be disbanded. Undertaker is headed to RAW, and dont worry, Vince will put on a great show for WMXX, because, according to sources, the heat is put on him by the board of directors, because of plummeting ratings, low PPV buy rates, and overall substandard product. The idea soon is to have Shane and Stephanie take over, because they have newer and better ideas to get it back on track. til then, stay tuned.....

I'll believe Benoit will win the title when it happens, and not one second before. It's entirely possible he'll just join the ranks of Triple H's job boys. There have been too many times in the past year and a half where it's looked blatantly obvious that Triple H just -had- to lose ... and he didn't. Never underestimate the power of being Vince's son-in-law.
