I was doing some random research on mythological beings and creatures just now and found something interesting on wikipedia. Apparently, water spirits named Rusalka were known to lead men to their lakes and rivers, where they would be drown them. However, and I quote straight from the article, "Alternatively, they would attract men, mainly bachelors, and tickle them to death.[1]"

Very brief, but something I didn't know and thought I'd pass on. If you'd like to read the article itself, its:

Hunh. Interesting find, Silentone. What a bizarre way to go. I'd want it on my tombstone.

I've read a few tickle stories that use Rusalkas. They're a fun concept, and they make for good fiction. That being said, being tickled to death is a bit much. I don't think I'd want to run into one. Now, if they happen to be quite ticklish themselves, that might be another story.

Wasn't there a member here or an author named Rusalka? That name sounds familiar. I never heard of that legend, but it seems a good one for anyone who claims to be into tickling to know. Very cool.

Rusalka Stories

I don't know about anyone named Rusalka here or on TMF, but there've been a couple stories about them that might be worth dredging up.

Jerrik has an X-Files take on Rusalka: http://tickletheater.com/showthread.php?t=1105
Max Speer did a Rusalka story: http://ticklingforum.com/showthread.php?t=59982

And I've also heard of these things being called Leshii. Midnight2_2222 did a pretty great 8-part series on Buffy the Vampire Slayer & Co. running into one. http://ticklingforum.com/showthread.php?t=54151 (Part I, rest are searchable enough)

While sometimes rusalka get a bit creepy for my tastes, they've made for worthwhile reading.

This would make a great picture. 🙂 Say, some folk hero manages to trick a Rusalka and winds up tickling her silly.
