Sad, Sad day for me

Today was one of the hardest days I've had in a while.

My parents and I took my cat, Tig, to get his rabies shot, and it wasn't at a real vet, they were having a special “get your pets vaccinated” thing. They were trained [I guess], but it was outside, no building.

Well, when the guy opened the cat carrier to give him the shot, my cat made a break for it. We have been out in the location where he ran too two time today, and no luck.

I have been sad all day, he was the best pet I ever had. Friendly, Smart, Never did scratch me, ETC

I'm sorry 🙁 I hope by a stroke of luck you find your cat... nothing is worse than losing a pet like that.

Very sorry about your cat. Your sadness is definitely understandable. I hope you find him somehow. Good Luck.

Thanks. the hardest part, for me anyway, is I keep thinking about all the ways it could have been averted, and the not knowing if he is dead or alive.

It's much too early to give up hope yet. Cat's are extremely versatile and are well known for their adaptability. Does he have a collar on him or is he chipped? Put up posters in the area and keep looking. Self-blame and focusing on what could have been done won't help anything and lead to a unpleasant downward spiral.

I'm sorry this happened to your furry friend. Cosmo is right - start a poster campaign, contact all local shelters and veterinary clinics so they are on the lookout for him. Hopefully you have a recent photo or can give a full description to help identify him. Microchipping is a great way to help reunite lost pets with owners - so if you haven't considered it before, definitely think about it now. Many shelters here have discounted days where they microchip pets for a very reasonable rate ($10 or such) so look around for things like that in your neighborhood. Good luck - keep us posted!

Thanks Cosmo, and Desdenona.

He did have a collar, but it slipped over his head when he ran, that's how he got away.

I always talked about getting him chipped, but never got around to it.

I never did think to make posters and put up, thanks. I'll work on making them tonight and post them up in the area tomorrow. [I think I still have a photo of him]

well, the area is posted, finger crossed.

and, their is a pic on facebook, I don't have an account, but my sister posted it for me.

Sorry about your little friend. Chances are good someone took her in/feeding her. Fingers crossed for you.

I've got my first lead, admittedly, it's a lose lead, but it is my first lead.

maybe going to check it out tomorrow.

there are lots of websites geared towards helping find lost pets. this one has some pretty good advice...

if you can, i think you should share the active searching with other family members, to cover some times during morning, day, evening and night. if you're within earshot but he's hiding due to noise/over stimulation, he might be too scared to come out until it's quiet, even if he recognizes your voice. plus, you'll be more likely to hear him meowing if you look when things are quiet.

and use the profiling tips available that are based on the personality category that your cat falls into. if he's out there (hasn't been picked up), chances are he's in the environment they predict.

I've had cats disappear for hours or days on end before showing up again, so I know what you must be going through. I hope you find your kitty soon.

I'm trying to take it day by day, and things are getting easier. [they are still things that remind me of him tho]

I've been looking into new cats to, I always like to prepare for the worst, that way, I don't get hurt as much.
