Sahara sand over Germany!

Today, my hometown Munich is tinted in a very eerie yellowish-reddish twilight. It's so dark at noon that I need to switch on the lights, and the sun is only vaguely visible behind a veil of yellow clouds. Actually, the sky looks rather frightening, as if the world was about to end.

I've seen such a sky only once before today: In the Syrian desert near Palmyra, shortly before a sand storm. And rightly so, meteorologists say that it must be sand from the Sahara desert in the clouds. Now, mind you, the Sahara is roughly 2000 miles away! They also predict that our houses and cars will be covered with a fine layer of yellow sand by tomorrow.

The weather never ceases to amaze me!

It's been scary around here for the last few years as well. Good luck with that sandstorm bud...get a nice thick hat.

Sounds pretty cool, Hal! 🙂

You could always blame it on Osama...😛

Cheers.😀

wow

that's wild! the weather worldwide has been very strange this year.

hang in there Hal, and just think, if you get bored one day you could always build a sandman..... (groan) sorry, that was bad.

there were some massive solar flares a few months ago... I wonder if that could have affected our jet stream, causing the outrageously strange Sahara phenomenon you are experiencing... sadly, that is the only explanation I can come up with right now!

Hmm, gives me sort of an idea: Why not build a pyramid; after all, it's desert sand!

Or as Munich is a beer city, let's make it a beeramyd... 😛 (You're not the only one with bad jokes!)

Serious: The meteorologists say that we've had Sahara sand in the air before, but never in this density. It can't be the jetstream though, as this stream blows in west-east direction, and the Sahara is directly south of us. But sun-flares DO affect the weather sometimes. Oh well, I can't change it anyway, and my grandma always told me not to worry about things I can't change... 🙄

you're right! The Sahara is south of you! I'm apparently an idiot! For some stupid reason I placed the Sahara somewhere in Asia... I can't tell you why, but I think it has something to do with the bird flu...

BTW, when the fur isn't flying (or the sand, as it were... I'm in rare form tonight), how is Munich as a tourist destination, I'm thinking of arranging a European trip...

The world really is smaller than we're willing to believe...🙂

There have been times that forest fires in Tennessee could literally be smelled in the middle of midtown Manhattan...the smoke travelled that far. This has happened multiple times...

Of course, I'm highly biased in this question, as Munich is my hometown. But I'm not the only one who appreciates Munich: It's certainly one of the top tourist attractions in Germany, along with Berlin. And Munich is the most desirable city to live, according to many lifestyle mags and their polls.

Lots of history to see here, the sunniest city in Germany, lots of street cafes, and the home of "Gemütlichkeit", an untranslatable word for "feeling good". Bavarian food and beer is great, and Munich is said to have the highest amount of most beautiful girls in Germany... 😎

BTW, if you want some help in planning your trip, I'd be glad to assist. I used to be a travel agent for 25 years, and I've seen most of Europe's tourist destinations. Just drop me a pm or email me.
