I guess it's time to take the bags off the heads now, huh? 😀

With no one giving them a real chance and spending two weeks explaining what "perfect storm" would need to happen to actually beat Peyton Manning and the Colts...the New Orleans Saints won a championship for not only a team or a franchise, but for an entire city that many predicted would never return.

It was bittersweet, seeing the Saints there...because they defeated my beloved Vikings to get there. But, the Saints have always been my 2nd favorite team, and that's by a pretty close margin.

What made this particular game a tad bit difficult for me to watch wasn't deciding who to root for (I do like the Colts a lot), but not having anyone to root against. No Cowboys, Steelers, Bears or Patriots to watch go down...hopefully. No polarizing Good Team/Bad Team thing for me this year. But in the end, you gotta stick with your loyalties, right?

And, regardless of the final score (31-17), the game was far closer than the numbers would lead one to believe. The Colts played well, Peyton was a constant threat. But the Saints defense stepped up, and we finally got to see Drew Brees as the elite QB he really is.

There was a certain moment that changed this game. An onside kick attempt (successfully recovered) to start the second half....

THE....BALLSIEST...CALL...in Super Bowl History. I mean, you don't call that play when you're ahead, let alone down four and facing the possibility of giving the league's best QB a short field to make that deficit even larger. At the very moment that play happened, I said to myself "The Saints just won this game."

Ah, to be on Bourbon Street right now. 😉 What a party for the city of New Orleans, especially with Mardi Gras right around the corner!

Congratulations to the New Orleans Saints, the long-suffering and utterly loyal fans...and a city that REALLY needed this. There are very few cities in which the football team is SO closely tied to the community (Green Bay, Baltimore maybe), and this victory is going to be celebrated for quite some time.

GO SAINTS!!!!!

😀

Congratulations, New Orleans!

Nobody gave the 1969 Jets a chance either, and no pre-merger AFL team had ever won the Superbowl back then. 😀

Congratskies indeed! 😀 Always have pulled for the Colts, but that was a pleasant surprise... well deserved! :woot:

The two point conversion and the surprising on-side kick all played a part in getting the saints the win.

I had thought the Colts were going to win...the Saints played a fantastic game however, congrats to them.

Wait...if the Saints can win the Super Bowl, does that mean that my Lions can too???

CONGRATULATIONS TO THE SAINTS.

The interception of Peyton Manning's pass in the 4th quarter sealed the Colts fate.

I don't think the Saints win is comparable in any way to the Jets win over the Colts. Every poll I saw had the Saints favored to win, except on Sunday when it was 50-50. Peyton Manning was the main reason people chose the Colts, but I think everyone knew the Saints had a great shot at winning. The Giants win was the most shocking I've ever seen in a Super Bowl.

I was pulling for the Colts, but if you're gonna lose, it might as well be to the Saints. Drew Brees is a guy that's deserved more credit for years -- now he's finally getting it.

Saints were the sentimental pick. Alot of people I knew were backing them.

Yeah, that or the 2001 Pats.

In any event, the Saints were fantastic (well, AFTER the 1st 😀), played their minds out and pulled out all the stops. They deserved to win, hands down.

Congrats to any fans. It's a long time coming.

I told myself at the start of preseason that this team was different. I just
wish I'd had the balls (and the money) to bet then that they'd win the Super
Bowl. The line was 18 to 1.
