has anybody seen the previews for the movie?

i have and well i can just say i know its only a movie and its only in a funny Comedy way. but i still feel that this movie is mocking us Christians and mocking God and just really mocking everything that Christianty stands for as a whole. from the previews i get of this movie is just all about is sheding the light on how Christians are all bible thumbers etc... surely that may be true for some Christians but still i don't feel that this movie is giving a good name towards Christians. even if it is just in a comedy funny hehe manner. and plus is produced by MTV if that gives you any basis.

This is the price we pay for being followers of God. Did Jesus not say we would be persecuted in our time? Mocked? Ridiculed?

I used that quote from the preview in the other thread "I am filled with Christ's love!" for a reason. While it may have only made it seem as though I'm a hypocrite, in that I claim to be of Christ yet I'd speak as I did, it proves a far greater and less trivial point- I'm only human (a point I think that scene was trying to make for the character that said that). All I can do is try my best. And when I fall, I fall. Nothings going to change that. All anyone can do is just dust themselves off and keep on going whether they are right or wrong. The quote for me is innocently funny. As I am filled with Christ's love, but that doens't mean I'm not going to get angry! LOL

Thats why, with this movie, sometimes you just have to let people think what they will. Ignorant people ignorant of christianity or people that are christians only in name and only pay lipservice to God and church are going to laugh their asses off at something like this. Its degeneration, its blasphemy, and its an ill-concieved and manipulated or exagerated picture which may show Christ and christianity for what they are not.

When religion is mocked its almost always in a comedy. People wish to take something sacred that they may perform sacralige. If that is not a form of evil, then what is it?

They have no qualms about making a movie like this or enjoying a movie like this. It has happened where Jesus has been portrayed as gay and Judas was his secret lover in broadway-style plays, and that Jesus had love affairs with all of the diciples. If that was truely not motivated by Satan himself, then who? Who would stoop so low and why?

This movie, we have yet to see. I am not prepared to render my judgement about how blasphemous it may prove to be. I can only assume from what I've seen that it paints christians and recluses who don't fare well with people outside their belief system. We aren't the ommish for crying out loud. If you want an extreme, theres one. Though, I'm not trying to deflect attention off of us, and God bless the ommish people.

If the producers and director of this movie genuinely, in their hearts feel this way about Christ and his people, then God forgive them because "they know not what they do."

Its for things like this that Jesus was crucified also. He died so that some asshole could make fun of him later, take his innocence, his love, and his people's love for him and others, and warp it into a vile monstrosity, so that he could be forgiven if he truely repented.

This is of course all assuming "Saved" turns out to be blasphemous. Right now, I see it as a comedy movie with religious symbolism. Its sort of like how those animated shows the PJs and King of the Hill make fun of blacks and texans. Yes, this is clearly more important than that, we're talking about God here, but I see no extreme foul as of yet.

If and when I do, you'll be sure to hear of it and we both know we won't be alone. And if we are, that would be really shameful and dishonorable of the so called christians of the TMF.

I'm looking at this from a different viewpoint;

Although the Christian community is subject to get angry about it, the storyline from this movie is true in many Christian circles. Some believers have been "saved" so long they have forgotten to show love to the sinner. The pregnant girl gets ostracized and forced out of favor with her schoolmates.

I've seen this happen to people who come to church not dressed properly. No one points out that it's great that the person came to church at all, they are just concerned about appeareances. It's happened to girls who are in the church and get pregnant. They are sometimes treated like lepers even though a large portion of the population is fornicating. They can throw the rock and hide their hand.

Maybe there is something to be learned from this movie besides the world's opportunity to be insulting to Christians. Maybe some Christians need a look in the mirror.

Oh, I agree. Some christians do deserve it, but not all of us. I'm just worried that it will be exagerated, or at worst, lies will be told for the sake of the plot of the movie, to keep the audiance's attention and to rake in the money.

As for how one is dressed for church, I think thats more about respect for where you are than anything else. If people can dress formally for other occasions they can do it for this. You are in the Lord's house. Unfortunately times have changed and just about every church has allowed that to be changed. I see girls all the time at mass that are wearing shorts or skirts that are just a little too short, or are wearing tops that are too revealing. While I do not question their heart, I question their respect for where they are.

So any other christian that is using dress codes to divide the congragation is ultimately going to fail. Things have changed, and hardly anyone can complain that the church has not accomidated people. In fact, many churches have gone further than they should to accomodate people's lavish comforts and personal preferences. I could go so far as to say that the music in church these days during these 'youth masses' are highly inappropriate. Electric and bass guitars and drums have no place in a church! Its not a rock concert or a show, its a religious service! But, again, they can get away with it because I cannot question their heart.:sowrong:

I'm 21 and I'm saying this! You'd think someone my age wouldn't care!

Your right times have changed. and i don't go to church as often as i should hardly ever at all anymore🙁 . But when i was going to our youth group service at my Church (baptist) on wed nights when i was younger. they would play more todays christian music like newsboys dc talk jars of clay etc... and i feel that if that sort of music brings in belivers to church to youth group or even to Jesus Christ then i am all for it. why i my not like that style of Christian music that they did play. Because im more into Christian rap and more heavyer type stuff. But still i was all for it as long as it what for the glory of him and his name. and i feel any type of christian music can be a glory to him in some way (yes! even the harder type music) you may not agree though.

and i'm 20 years old.

http://www.gospelcom.net/creation/ check this out Celtic. me and my Dad have been to this two years already! its a blast... don't know if we can go this year though. we haven't even mentioned it hardly

I don't have a problem with the music itself. Christian rock, pop, alternative, rap, whatever. God bless these people and may their lyrics and music touch people and get them high on Jesus. I'd rather them be high on Jesus than high on something else and making a grave mistake.

Just to prove I'm not just saying this to sound good and accepting, I'm a fan of Sixpense None The Richer and have been since they came out years back. While they haven't produced that many albums their songs and lyrics are as good as gold as far as I'm concerned.

But back to the music in the church. See, I don't know how things are in a protestant church, but in a catholic church theres respect for the residing priest, the decon, and whomever else may be there. A priest has worked hard and studied hard for many years to get where he is. He has made a sacrifice not many can make. In fact, I'm sure you're aware of the world-wide shortage of priests and clergymen and women. Anyways, most priests are old. Thats a fact. The average priest in America is like 50-55 years of age. They were born and raised in a time where this disprespect and nonsense didn't exist in the church.

Now, alot of these priests aren't stiffs. Alot of them are really funny and crack jokes when they can. Father John for example makes it a point to tell a joke after every mass, but before we leave.

Anyways, I mention that to make it known that these priests aren't out to get anyone or have their own agenda or something. They keep with the times and accomodate however they can. They put up with alot, and thats putting it mildly.

My point is there should be a respect in the presense of a priest. For some unreverant music to be playing when he enters, as he sits, as he stands, as he TRYS to meditate over the altar and bless it and prepare the gifts, and after he leaves shows me that there no respect there for him and for God. The adult choir does a much better job of selecting appropriate music, obviously. They use proper instruments and nothing which takes attention off of the mass and on to them.

See, the music is meant to accompany worship. Thats true in all churches of all faiths and religions. The music is supposed to be calm and soothing. Its supposed to allow you to meditate and pray. You can't do that with an electric guitar or drums playing. And whats more, sometimes theres no room in the back for these churches to place these instruments and place the 'choir', so what do they do? They place them right next to the altar! FOR THE LOVE OF GOD! THE ALTAR!

Anyways, another point I'm trying to make is it needs to be a choir, not a band. Unless that band can play as they should. I'd be fine with that. What I don't like is these kids calling themselves a 'choir' when they are clearly trying to be a band. I'm saying theres no place for that kind of sentiment in the church and yet these 'youth masses' are created and allowed anyway just to probably avoid any kid or parent crying that their freedom to praise God however they want is being trampled on. The only thing being trampled is the church! If these kids want to play their music, they can do it during their own time. That time is not your band's time, this isn't a concert, its a religious cermony for everyone! Not so a band can show off their skills and talent. If you want to do that, raise money and make an album. Thats how alot of today's christian musicians did it! Some of these youth bands or whatever are ok and are reverant. You can tell, you can feel it, you can see it, you experience it. Some of them play more mellow music that suits the environment. Its not designed to have a beat or to stand out. It compliments the service. These particular ones have the right idea, and they are far less of a nusance.

Whats so hard to understand about this? Its a simple request. Just like its requested that cellphones and pagers are turned off, that children are supervised at all times, that there is no talking during the mass and most of all, that you should participate instead of just sit there waiting for it to be over. How can you take anything in if your ears are plugged and you are deaf to the sermon? If you are only going out of some lame feeling of guilt or obligation nothing good can happen for you there, and its not the fault of the church for not keeping your attention and energies, its yours!

The church is a holy santuary. We need to start treating it like such again.

THANK GOD this isn't a problem at my local parish, the one I go to most often. Thank God I can have the peace and tranquilty! It may not seem that way with the way I've discribed the overall situation, but its so good to know that there are still churchs that haven't fallen to the idea of weekly 'youth masses'. Once a month, maybe, every week? I wouldn't be able to stand that. And lets face it anyways, the majority of teens sing incoherntly and out of tune. Its not pleasant on the ears either way sometimes. They have no formal training, haven't taken any singing classes...its just a mess... But the church encourages them anyways, since its important that the youth are a part of the church as well. And that whether they have a God-given talent or not, that they should sing to the Lord with their hearts. I'm all for that too, but it just doesn't work sometimes and its very distracting and sometimes downright annoying. I'm talking about the singing portion right now, not the instruments.

Personally, I would like it to go back to the way it was, with the pipe organ and the choir singly in harmony. THATS MY CHURCH MUSIC and I want it back!

It would definitely get the attention of people that like the gothic and victorian eras and those styles.

And another thing, people don't even wait for the priest to leave the alter or the church! Their in such a damn hurry to leave they ending up forming a line and the priest can only hope he can get through before the bulk of the people make it to the exists. A priest shouldn't have to do that. He shouldn't be rushed. How damn rude! I know some people have plans, but this is unacceptable and do these people even consider how he might feel because of it? Only practicing parishiners have compassion for a priest anymore or see them as human beings with feelings! To everyone else he's probably just a robot telling them what they want to hear. Its so damn stereotypical RAARARRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!

I'm going to bed! I've earned my sleep! LOL ^_____^
