Folks,

I have me a Primax Colorado 600p scanner. I got a new(ish) computer, so I'm trying to hook up this scanner to my computer, load in the software, etc.... Well, the CD I have for the scanner has a little scrape or ding on it, probabaly from when I tried cleaning it with some steel wool after dropping it into my double boiler filled with steaming fudge. Anyway, the point is this: When the software is loading, it gets to a certain point, stops and starts relaoding again. I can't get past this in any way!

I have tried contacting the Primax Colorado people for a new disk but have had no luck (the website is an endless maze of links, their tech support is in the Netherlands, crazy stuff like that...)

Is there anyone out there who maybe has this disk they no longer need that can send it to me, or will let me borrow or buy theirs, or will break federal law for me and make me a copy of this disk? Alas, my scanner just sits here now, an empty lifeless husk, much like Joan Rivers.....

have you tried letting Windows search itself to see if it has the drivers and stuff (stop me if I get too techy for you) you need? if it is a newer computer they may already be there.

Good advice Ayla,

Also, if you have any of the paperwork when you bought the product, it may have a technical support phone number, something in the US. Otherwise, keep surfing the net for answers. Sometimes, the software is located on one of the sites. Also try downloads.com for some possible compatibles.

Ayla has the best idea. Turn your computer off and plug in your scanner. Then turn your system back on. Maybe windows will find compatible software within the operating system.

Good luck and best wishes!

Thank you both for your help! I tried downloading a driver about 6 months ago but couldn't get it to solve the problem - don't remember right off what the messasge was, but it didn't help. But I will try the driver trick again this weekend. Will it actually work in overcoming a scrathced CD?

If you have erased any copies that are on your hard drive presently, shut the computer off and unplug your scanner. Plug the scanner back in and turn the computer on. Windows operating system should treat your scanner like new hardware and find appropriate drivers. If not, I'm not sure what to do in order to help you. No matter what, a scratched CD is a ruined CD and is no longer useable.

I'm crossing my fingers and wishing you luck.😎

if that doesn’t do it, then try going into your control panel and clicking on the “Add New Hardware” icon. it will take you through the steps to find the drivers and stuff Windows may already have for your scanner.

if that works, you won’t need the CD at all. especially if you already have a photo editing program. just about any one of them should work with a scanner.

stick to chocolate covered pretzels... they taste better anyhow!

No Promises.

Try Driver Guide

http://www.driverguide.com/

I found nine drivers listed for your machine.

I think you have to register, for free.

I don't know if their definition of "free" is the same as the TMF's definition of "free".

(I like the definition of free that Jeff, Myriads, et.al. use here.)

p.s. I find this by typing the phrase, "Primax Colorado 600p scanner" into this search engine...

http://www.dogpile.com/

... Took the second hit, and followed a short trail of one or two links to find this place.

If it works, I would love for you to PM me

Thanks for the great sugeestions, from drivers to pretzels. I will give this a shot this Saturday and let you all know what happens.
