Schumann Fact

The great German composer Robert Schumann believed he would be able to play the piano better if he could extend the range of movement of his ring finger. He thought if he tied the finger in an extended position overnight, it would loosen the tendon. Instead, he successfully paralyzed his finger.

Half right i suppose........

.....Schumann was always frustrated with the fact that the ring and middle finger are not mechanically separate in the way that the first and middle finger are, you can often sense this if you play his music, he is always wanting that ring finger to do things it does not want to do!! I dont recall reading about him paralising his ring fingers but I believe he once went so far with his weight exersises that he broke both of them!!

Some day I should post a pic of what 12 years of playing guitar has done to MY fingers. It's pretty freaky how flexable they are now.
