Sci-Fi's Battle Star Galactica is turning out to be the best thing on TV

I haven't watched the series much, but damn, that Asian chick is HOT...

I would like to give Battlestar Gallactica a shot as I hear and read that it really is a great series. I was a big fan of the original (had the Cylon figure with moving red eye!). The only thing is I fear id be lost because the storyline is so intricate. Did they release a box set or something so I can catch up?😕

Well, I’m a big sci-fi snob and there haven’t been many worthwhile projects in recent years. I was thoroughly mad when I heard Hatch’s efforts to restart “Battlestar Galactica” were being hijacked; I don’t think anyone liked the idea of a reboot of the series. Nevertheless, Moore has shown his brilliance once again. It is, literally, one of the only good programs on television right now. I bet executives are kicking themselves that they only ordered a first season of 12 episodes (don’t worry; more are being produced as we speak).

I read that NBC was going to run the repeats of the first season. The only thing I fear is that the show will be taken off of the Sci-Fi channel and placed on NBC affiliates permanently. That would mean a quick end to the sharp and edgy writing that makes that show shine.

Regarding the effects, I agree with what you guys are saying. They don’t even look like special effects. The camera work that they employ definitely took a page from “Babylon 5”; what you see looks like it’s through a gun-camera or some other fixed point in space. It creates a vastly more realistic view of extremely unrealistic things. The new Vipers are a triumph! They’re retro enough to please the old-school fans while new enough to function believably (again, pages were taken from “Babylon 5”).

If only “Enterprise” could have gotten Moore onboard they wouldn’t be facing cancellation right now. Paramount’s loss is our gain I suppose! I say “good” for the Sci-Fi channel; I’m happy to see them finally getting back to their mandate of airing quality science fiction and fantasy.

p.s. I hope everyone realizes that every network on Earth is going to try to remake sci-fi shows now in the vain hopes of replicating “Battlestar Galactica”. Get your helmets on because this industry always works in trends.

A dvd box set of the first season will be released around Christmass. The DVD for the 4 hour miniseries is available now. And I hear that NBC will only be doing repeats, and that they will keep it on Sci-Fi.

That's great news on both fronts. I was wondering when we'd get a DVD release. I'll be picking that up about five seconds after it comes out 🙂

I don't trust the Sci Fi Channel.

Yeah, the new BG is great...but remember what happened to the last great show on the channel...Farscape🙄

The Sean Man

That was when the channel was just owned by Vivendi Universal or Showtime. Now they are owned by Universal/NBC. Both of them want better programming for the channel. They aren't going to tinker with the existing shows much, but this is the first new show from the new management. Lets put it this way-There is a new Doctor Who and, although I have no interest in it, I hear that it realy sucks ass. Sci-fi was interested in putting it on after they saw it. Well the old Sci-fi would have put it on anyway. The new Owners watched it and will not put it on the air as it stinks. Right now they are producing remakes of two hit movies from the 80's. I know the thing is being done by Frank Darabount (The Shawshank Redemption, The Green Mile) and Ridley Scott is doing another remake. So the fact is that Sci Fi will be getting better as the new shows under the Universal/NBC umbrella start emerging.

And I must admit, the trench run the other night, although not as long as the Star Wars one, was great.

Since I don't have cable or satellite, I'll have to catch the DVD box sets. I vaguely remember the old show from the seventies. (Was that the one with Lorne Green from Bonanza?) I'll never forget a T-shirt a buddy of mine had. It was a black shirt with stars, a space scene. Cruising through space like a majestic starship was a giant condum. The caption read Battlestar Prophylactica. :blaugh:
