Not only 5 straight, but 8 consecutive championships that an SEC team has played in dating back to Florida in...I wanna say '96?
It was a great game, and you gotta give props to Oregon as well. I enjoyed watching the game, as I had no real vested interest in either team other than the "sportsman's appreciation" thing, although I do have to admit to pulling for the Ducks just a little. Would have been nice to see a Pac 10 champ for once. Ah well.
As is usually the case in these championship games, things didn't go as predicted. For two teams that posted a shitload of points (Oregon averaging almost 50 per game this year!), it was stuck at 19-11 for a long time. Excellent defensive schemes on both sides of the ball. While Oregon came up with the slightly more exciting big plays, Auburn just got into a rhythm and found the weak spots, wore 'em down. (And it was funny that the score was 11-9 for a bit, and the team with 11 wasn't the one with the safety!)
All in all, a very good game and congrats to the Auburn Tigers on their first championship since '57.
