I learned this morning that my mother fell and suffered a broken leg a few days ago and is in a hospital. Given her age (88) and over-all health issues surgery is not an appealing option so the doctors have decided to bide their time and see if the leg will heal. We've been told the odds are 60/40 in our favor. The initial CT Scan also showed a suspicious shadow that could have been cancerous but futher tests have ruled that out, at least for now.

Sorry to hear this Bug. last year my mother had a stroke, fell, and lay in her living room for most of the night. A neighbor found her the following morning. She was 87. She lived in a senior citizens apartment complex at the time and was able to take care of herself pretty much. When I had to tell her she couldn't go on living alone, it broke her heart. I lived 150 miles away at the time, but since then I've moved her into a home where I live. She has started to have cancer issues as of late but chemo seems to be heading it off. She still does enjoy the occasional beer when I bring her over to the house to eat and visit.
Keep good thoughts buddy.

This is much like when my mother had her stroke in 1996. Had my sister-in-law not found her that evening we likely would have lost her.

Kudos and honors to you for that. You are a good man.

Thanks man. All my best to you and your mother as well.

Bugman: I am sorry to hear that your mother was injured. My mother is almost 86 and has had broken bones in the past. She must now use a walker to get around safely. I do hope ya'll get a good recovery and she is not in too much pain.

Have you considered getting something like "lifeline"? I got it for my mom after she had back surgery in case she fell while I was at work. She wore it around her neck and if something happened, she pressed a button. They would check on her once a week to make sure everything was in working order. It gave me great peace of mind and did not cost all that much. My thoughts and prayers are with you and yours.

Thanks Des. Our mother has been in a nursing facility since her stroke. I moved back to Kansas City in 1997 with the idea I'd find a small house or apartment and move her in with me. Given her other health issues and the level of care she needs I could not find a way to make it work.

Sorry to read about your mother's accident. It sounds like she will be in hospital/nursing home care for awhile. My mother would say: "Don't Get Old".

Thanks Carl. Yes, we're looking at 4 to 6 weeks in the hospital assuming the leg heals on its own as the doctors hope.

Thanks, pal. I appreciate your thoughts. I hope and pray your mother gets better soon.

Mitch

My best wishes for your mother's recovery without surgery, Bugman.
