You'll need to download the video file from Youtube and grab a player for the filetype, FLV. To get the video file itself, do the following:
1. Go to
http://max.subfighter.com/flv/downloader.php
2. In another browser window or tab go to the page of the YT video you want to save. In this example I use a video of Raymond Crowe performing his shadow puppet act:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2awuWK6c6xE
3. On the "Flash Video Resources" page, the first link I gave you, look for a text box to the left of a button labeled "Get Video". Remember it.
4. You need to copy the web address of the YouTube Video now. Go to its window/tab and look for the address box, where a URL like "http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2awuWK6c6xE" will be visible. If some extra characters are at the end this is fine.
5. Click once in that area. The text should be highlighted. Click the "CTRL" and "C" keys at the same time and release. You have now copied the address text. Alternatively, go to "Edit" and select "Copy".
6. Go back to the page with the "Get Video" button. Click once in the text box next to that button and either click "CTRL" and "V" at the same time or go to "Edit" and select "Paste". The address you copied should appear in the box.
7. Click "Get Video". Text and a link should appear below. Right-click on "Get FLV" and select "Save Target As" or "Save Link As", depending on your browser.
8. It may take time for something to happen. Eventually a download window will appear with something like "get_video" as the file name. Change that name to whatever you want but MAKE SURE YOU HAVE THE FOLLOWING AT THE END OF THE FILENAME: "
.flv" You MUST have this at the end for it to work.
9. Click "Save" and allow download to progress.
You now have the file. You now need an FLV player. A simple stand-alone player is available here:
http://www.download.com/3000-2139_4-10755750.html Download it and install it. Now when you double-click on the downloaded FLV file you can pla it.
As an alternative, try converting it, as mentioned.
http://media-convert.com/ is a service I've used. To use it do the following:
1. Look for a "Browse" button next to a text box. Click it. Browse for the FLV file.
2. Media Convert should automatically detect the filetype.
3. Scroll down and look for "Output format" on the left. Choose the file type you want. The default "No video preset" and "Windows Media Video (wmv)" is usually safe.
4. Just right of that check the box next to "I accept the terms" and click "OK".
5. Allow the upload and conversion process to complete. Download the completed file when prompted.
