Should bars have breathalizers?

Now, as a rule, i don't do much drinking at the bar. Waste of money, if you ask me. For the price of two beers, i can buy a six pack. But, there are rare times when i do go out for drinks with friends, either from work or elsewise. However, whenever i do this, there is always a lingering fear when i drive home, that if i take a breathalizer, i'll fail and loose my license, even if i don't feel drunk when i leave the bar.

Personally, i'm in favour of some sort of legislation for bars to provide a breathalizer for bar patrons to use, as that way they will know if they'll actually blow over or not.

Thoughts?

I can see some bars offering it as a service to their customers who want it. But I despise laws that force private businesses to operate as part of the "nanny state".

It really is a good idea, and I'd support it. Phoenix and the valley out here have one of the highest drunk-driving records in the nation.

Safety is always best . California state law on drunk driving is severe and expensive . It makes it safer for everyone . A breathalizer can let you know when it's ok to drive and that's a good thing .

I agree it's a good idea to offer it, but legislating something like that is always a bad idea.

I think it is a good idea, some bars and clubs in Sydney have them as a free service, but what good are they honestly. Its not like they can stop someone driving home if they give a positive reading.

I think it'd be a waste of money, most people know themselves when they've had too much and probably should get a friend or a taxi to take them home, personally i wouldn't drive home even if i only had one drink, but thats my stance.
Maybe in america it might work because driving home after havin a couple of beers is the done thing. But not here in the uk
