WPVI news ran a story about a horrible case of animal hording in Philadelphia today. Tragic, sickening, and maddening., The reporter covering the story, Katherine Scott, seemed stunned at the conditions inside the house they found the animals in.

The story should be on the website at

www.WPVI.com.

The link works. I just checked it.

They just talked about it for the third time today on the 4pm news. Early morning, noon, and now 4pm. It will be interesting to see if Jim Gardner discusses it on the 6 and 11pm broadcasts if he's in tonight.

Yes, I did hear about this on the news. It's a horrible story & it sounds like this man wasn't even taking good care of the house even before he fell. Hope the cats that were found alive are going to be okay. I think animal abuse is, in a way, even worse than abuse of children.

This is where I found the actual story. Hoarding is a disease. Those animals - and the human who was trying to take care of them along with himself - suffered from neglect. This is a sad case - but no neighbor or relative must have checked in on him for a long time for so many animals to be dead and decomposing without drawing attention to the situation. It's sad for all involved - no one comes out a winner except maybe the few live animals they found - if they are in good enough health to be salvaged and have temperaments that allow them to be adopted out. Getting the house cleared must be horrific - I can't even begin to imagine what the clean up crews are going through. I hope the elderly man recovers and can be helped by some friend or relative. As for the rest of the kitties...may they RIP.

Thanks for the full link, des.

From reading the situation, it seems as if the man was probably incapable of taking care of even himself, let alone innocent animals. As you said, may the animals who passed rest in pet heaven, and hopefully the old man will be helped by medical people.

I hate hearing about stuff like this. To think there are people who are that badly damaged. I feel for those poor kitties (and for the man who hoarded them).
