I have to go to Missouri for a family funeral. My mother/father/brother wanna rent a van. I hate cross country trips in cars. I'm always afraid something will go wrong. This is going to be 4 days worth of worrying and not being able to close my eyes for a minute. I know it seems silly but when I'm away from my own home/mistress I get awfully nervous and worried. Why god can't my parents ever take a plane? It's going to be just as bloody expensive to drive there as it is to fly there! Sigh...

New York City to Missouri? A trip like that by car might be an adventure if you've got weeks or ideally, months to work with. But 4 days straight of highway driving? Not my idea of a good time.

If your folks don't like flying (and there's little to recommend it these days!), how about Amtrak? Granted, it can outstrip the cost of flying, as I've observed, but well, it's not an airplane. And you don't have to stay strapped into a car seat for the duration.

In any case, you have my condolences on the death of your relative.

Stop being nervous. Don't be a puppy.

And Journia...I'M MORE WOMAN THAN YOU CAN HANDLE! :stickout

4 days from NY to MO is pretty slow driving, unless it's on the far side of MO. And even then you're looking at 3. in any case, enjoy Flyover Territory as you pass through... things are just starting to green up a bit here.

when I get nervous about anything new, the best solution at least to me is not to think about it. Even while you're doing it. Usually i think about ice cream.....or something.

That's so weird. I'll be going to Missouri for a funeral soon as well. My grandpa is dying and only has a few days left. I'm a little sad, but he's old, lived a long life, and is just slowly shutting down. Keeping him alive would just become torture for him after a while, so there's an aspect of peacefulness about it too.

Wish you well, though there are more important things to think/worry about than means of transportation at this point.

Awww...I'm so sorry to hear that. I wish your grandpa a safe and painless transition into the realm beyond. May he rest peacefully in flowered green fields filled with crystal clear brooks/rivers and groves of fruitful trees...and may one day you be reunited with him and the rest of us...for there is a time and place for all under heaven. ^_~
