Top to bottom, this is a great card. Let's kick it off with:
Jake O'Brien vs. Anderi Arlovski
O'Brien is a great ground fighter with solid skills and a good track record against strikers. Arlovski has the advantage of being Andrei Arlovski. If Arlovski pushes forward, he should be able to hold him off. Arlovski by Decision.
Chris Wilson vs. Jon Fitch
This is killing time so that Serra and GSP can resolve the title. Fitch gets the winner of that fight. Fitch by TKO.
Yushin Okami vs. Evan Tanner
This will be a fun fight. Really, it's whoever gets on top on the ground first wins. Both guys are strong wrestlers and solid G 'n Pers. I think Okami's got the advantage simply because he's been in the UFC more consistently than Tanner. Okami by Decision.
Alessio Sakara vs. Chris Leben
Important fight for both guys. I think Sakara is the better striker and he's dropping weight for this, but Leben has better conditioning. It'll either be a quick knockout for Sakara or a long win for Leben. Eenie meenie miney mo... Leben by Decision
Chieck Kongo vs. Heath Herring
Someone's getting knocked out. Kongo and Herring both have been training like animals for this. The winner is in line for a title shot. Really, it's going to be whoever hits the first big shot wins. For kicks, I'll say Kongo by KO/TKO in round 2.
Anderson Silva vs. Dan Henderson
The only place Henderson is truly safe from Silva is on top on the ground, and even then, Silva's a BJJ black belt. Silva's a great striker, but Henderson can take a boatload of damage before he goes down. Silva's got reach and accuracy. Henderson's got strength and toughness. This is a bad style matchup and as a result, is going to be a sick, sick fight.
My concern is this; if Silva walks through Henderson like he's done with everyone else, who's next? He's yet to fight to a third round in the UFC and he's barely even had a scratch on him. Silva wins a long, drawn out fightor Henderson wins, he and Henderson can make a trilogy. He destroys Henderson, there's nobody else for him. Here's hoping for a war. Silva by KO/TKO, 3rd round or later.
And confirmed fights for UFC 85 in May:
BJ Penn vs. Sean Sherk
Wanderlei Silva vs. Keith Jardine
Tito Ortiz vs. Lyoto Machida
See you Saturday!
