This summer a group of my buddies and I started playing Dungeons and Dragons. I was wondering how many of you forumers play as well. Actually, I take that back, and table top rpg (White wolf, Deadlands, etc).

Figure I might as well toss in what my character looks like right now.

Name: Illhoof Ragetotem
HP: 181
AC: 24
STR: 20
DEX: 20
CON: 30
INT: 8
WIS: 13
CHA: 13

We're Lvl 9 right now. He's a monster race I made up from Minotaurs, class is barbarian. He only had 25 for CON, 24 for STR, and a 16 in DEX. One of my buddis had a horribly imbalanced character that he didn't mod at all so everyone got 14 extra ability points. He used to have the nickname "Green Pixie" because originally he had a pink hula skirt that turned into a pixie at will and when he raged in pixie form he burst into green flames.

So yeah, if any y'all do play throw your character up, or talk about the system you play in, any modifications to rules you use, anything like that.

Oh, also I'm gonna be DM'ing soon and introducing a log of cog/steam/cyber punk, so any ideas for that would be cool as well. I basically have to mod every monster we use to fit the environment.

Yes, I've played, quite a bit actually. My friends and I started with the original large hardcover TSR published rules put out in the late 70s. And we messed around with the other early game sets like Gamma World, Car Wars, Palladium, etc. Too much fun. I've continued playing off and on since then. I'd like to get back on a table one of these days. It's been a few years since I played anything that wasn't online.

Played quite a few sessions, DMed far more. Been playing for 5 years now. We had some short campaigns, going up to lvl 2 or 3 max, sometimes staying on lvl 1 due to death (once, due to luck, one simple orc killed off a whole party consisting of cleric, fighter, rogue and wizard), sometimes advancing up to lvl 20 (never had patience to go beyond).
What's important is that we always had fun. Whenever me and my buddies play, we play it for pure entertainment, and joke around.
For example: my friend once played a wizard, transformed himself into a girl, seduced a nobleman, transformed back into guy during sex (spell wore off on DM's discretion😉 ), got arrested, tossed into a dungeon and raped whole night by the ogre.
On another example, we found a hole in the ground. A friend was curious about what it was, so he stuck his hand inside. The hole shot out something, which we luckily all avoided, but the friend insisted that he pushes the hand inside again. This time he was sucked in, and it turned out that it was the ass of a giant rock-eating monster. Then, the party's monk had to go get him.

Also, the classes I prefer playing the most are:
Rogue
Monk
Ninja (in no particular order), and my fave edition is 3.5. 4th edition didn't sit all well to me.

I love playing D&D!!! My and my friends usually end up being the group that do all sorts of quest because we are the only one stupid enough to do it. Not only that but almost every time we did a new campaign no one would play a cleric (except on time, but our friend played more of a smiting cleric so he never healed anyone), which made it a lot more interesting and amusing. I like to make new characters so I always end up helping others build theirs. I sadly don't have my D&D stuff right now so I can't tell you my most recent characters but I have played as:

1) monk: My first character didn't no much of the system so he wasn't build very well Always was ambush by badgers on the raven's nest cause the fellow cleric kept summoning them.
2) Barbarian: I actually got better and made him not you usual barbarian character. He was more on the lines of a berserker as he was quite calm and diplomatic until h raged and tore everything apart 😛.
3) Swordsage: He and the Druid (played by one of my friends) were the brains of the group of we where the only one with common sense, while the druid was more jaded and called most people idiots the swordsage was quieter and would solve most problems quietly.
4) Scout/swashbuckler: He was a daredevil with no common sense what so ever (had a wisdom of 3) sadly didn't last long since he was created at the end of the semester and by then we decided to do a new campaign. Last seeing turning into a wererabbit.
5) Rouge/wizard: he was an a**hole. He would steal from his friends and take advantage of any possibility given to him. would probably be abandon by the rest if not for being so good at unlocking, disarming and lying.
6) Monk II: He solved problems, WITH HIS FIST!!!!!!XD Not to mention he had really high AC

The monks I have played so far:

1) First few were human monks: high wis and str, then dex, con, then everything else. Alignment: LN. Made for some interesting scouts and supportive fighters, adding stuns while the damage-dealers finished the job.

2) Next ones were LG or LN dwarves. Pretty interesting for roleplay, tough, good survivability, though seriously lacking in charisma department.

3) Elf monks. Played them once as an experiment and from then on, never changed the race for my monks. Huge AC, if coupled with Weapon Finesse grants huge attack bonus as well. Also, great for roleplaying and great for LE alignment. Most of the ones I play marry drow chicks😀 Also, they are great assassins. I remember once when we were searched at the entrance, for weapons. Of course, mine didn't have any weapons, so he just approached his target, killed him with bare hands, then vanished into shadows. Elf monks were among my favorite plays, along with half-elf rogues, dwarf rogues (yes, it does work, and it's quite interesting), and ninjas of any type.

Barbarians:

The most interesting one I played was a half-elf-half-orc barbarian, with two-weapon-fighting, later multiclassing into frenzied berserker. He was really fast to clean up the field... of friends and foes alike. That is why he always had to do quests to revive them.
Also, this reminded me of a situation in which my friend was a barbarian. Once he told a woman he just saved: "Woman, I am a barbarian, with charisma 12... ", then he stopped to check his paper, "... yes. Would you like to have sex with me?"
We were all laughing our lungs out.

Luckily for us, when we play we all have different specializations: one friend is tank (paladin, fighter, barbarian), the other is mage (sorc, wizard, druid), my bro is cleric (St. Cuthbert's, so he can dish out damage and heal), and I'm scout (monk, rogue). Of course, we do change classes a lot, but these are the ones we specialize in.

But, what I love about d&d most is that conversations like this one during games are common:
DM: "And so, you follow the hall and see a man resembling a rat."
Player: "Hey man, are you a rat?"
DM: "Yes."
Player: "OK, then we'll kill you."
DM: "OK."

I never played actually, but a real life friend of mine made a song about it. I didn't have the lyrics so I had to research them but they are pretty easy to find.

[00:04]Harmonica.
[00:10]More harmonica.

[00:16]I got my twelve sided die and I'm ready to roll with a wizard and my goblin crew.
[00:22]My friends are coming over to my mom's basement bringing Funyuns and the Mountain Dew.
[00:27]I got a big broad sword made outta cardboard and that stereos a pumpin zeppelin. (dazed and confused)
[00:33]It's that time of the night, we turn on the black light, let the dungeons and the dragons begin!

[00:38]It's D and D!!
[00:42]Fighting with the legends of yore.
[00:44]It's D and D!!
[00:48]Never kissed a lady before. Nope, I said it, WOOO!
[00:51]C'mon you gonna bring the thunder? I'll bring the fuckin thunder, c'mon bring the thunder, c'mon lets go! Aww that's nice.
[00:57]Why don't you bring some thunder mother fucker. Bring some thunder, alright!

[01:02]Now the lord of the rings the dark crystal and things, we use these as a reference tool.
[01:08]And when we put on our cloaks and tell warlock jokes, we're the coolest kids in the school!
[01:15]No we're not. I know.

[01:17]Now Teich's a real bastard, but a fair dungeon master, he's got hitpoints and charisma to lend.
[01:22]And I rehearse in my room or what I call the dragon's tomb when I'm not out with my girlfriend!
[01:27]It's D and D!
[01:29]Wait wait wait, Teich, c'mon. I'm sorry. Woah hey wait, I'm sorry. Hold on gimme one second. What?
[01:34]Dude come on, seriously. What?!
[01:42]You've got a fuckin...girlfriend? Dungeon master!
[01:49]That's kind of a dick thing to say.

[01:52]It's D and D!!
[01:55]Summoning the demons of hell.
[01:57]It's D and D!!
[02:00]When our shift ends at the taco bell. Gordita! Chalupa!

[02:20]Well my medieval brother, there's room here for another, would you care to take a roll of the die?
[02:25]You guys make me weep, you think that you can keep up with a warrior as mighty as I?
[02:31]See you're in mortal danger, I'm a first class ranger who's half gargoyle and half elf.
[02:37]And if that doesn't scare ya maybe I should beware ya what lurks within my gaming shelf.
[02:43]Next to my junior high annual lies my monster manual, and my customized dungeon master screen.
[02:49]I've got treasures and traps on my graph paper maps, next to my three inch solid pewter figurines.
[02:55]So if you think you got the balls, bring on your dungeon master calls, I'll be protected by my robe of destruction.
[03:01]And I will leave you both in tears cause I'm the dungeon master here and you two are in need of some instruction.

[03:06]It's D and D!!
[03:10]Warriors who terrify.
[03:12]It's D and D!!!!!!!
[03:23]Virgins, 'til the day.....
[03:30]We..................................
[03:41]o oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh ohh oh
[03:47]Do it, oh oh ohh oh {note😱h's from New Kids on the Block song}

That would be Stephen Lynch, D&D...

I just remembered a funny story about the campaign I'm in right now. We started out in a tavern when there was a loud ruckus outside. Turns out a minotaur just popped the captain of the guard's head like a cherry tomato. Our group ventures outside and, playing a minotaur, I bluffed him into not fighting us. My DM was amazed and responded with, "That was the first time, in all of the games I've played, that you haven't killed the minotaur." Mind you, he's been playing D&D for the past 15+ years, and has DM'd a fair amount. I was proud of that.

my favorite part are always does that no one that are out of the ordinary. Which is why our "Group of idiots" as we called ourselves out of character were always entertaining. Here are a few samples :3
I.
Barbarian: Are there any weapons that look out of the ordinary?
DM: You find an axe, and it has this atmosphere that tells you that you don't want to touch it.
Barbarian:........ I touch the axe.
DM: "sigh and facepalm" ok, when you touch it visions of death and and insanity flash in you mind in an instant. you are now on the floor weeping in the fetal position. Your cursed now and when ever you see an undead you start crying in fear uncontrollably.
(This led the druid and the sorcerer when they reached the next town to by rope and they tied down the barbarian on a big pink tree while the sorcerer used ilusions to make a skeleton appear and start dancing. The barbarian was crying the whole time.
~~~~~~~
II.
On the very fist session their was a robbery on the bar, when the sorcerer went to talk to them (he wanted a piece of the action) they attacked him and he then proceeds to blow up the bar... with almost the whole group except for me who had run off in it still.
~~~~~~
The barbarian sees a creepy floating little girl.... He proceeds to punch her in the face. The was the end of that character.

then dwarven defender is the perfect class for you. :3

D&D is all kinds of fun. Especially when it leads to silliness with friends at 3am.

I used to play D&D and a friend of mine made his own game he hoped to market.

How'd that work out for him? Just asking because a few friends and myself are talking about doing the same thing.

Silliness is requiring a negative modifier to your intelligence to take frontier gibberish as a bonus language, and then actually using it in game to speak to the blacksimth while the DM is confused as hell as to what you just said.

How'd that work out for him? Just asking because a few friends and myself are talking about doing the same thing.

Badly. Lots of ego clashes and fights over content. They tried two times and I was in the second group. I ended up quiting and getting most of the money I put into it back.

We did get a few tips from someone about marketing it. PM me if you want to talk about it.

I played a bit back in the day. Unfortunately I never had enough people around here that really wanted to play. I did a brief stint as a writer for Polyhedron Magazine. I wrote "The Wolflords of Malar" article.
