There will be 365 days and just as many nights. Some of them will be good, some will be bad. There is no year with only good days or only bad ones. And while some of us will have a good day, the same day will be very bad for others. Don't forget that when your day is bright and shiny.
There will be happiness and sadness, joy and grief, often separated by just one door.
Some people will fall in love, others will break up. Children will be born, and some people will die. Life and death are two sides of the same medal: nature.
More people will die in wars all over the world. There is an average number of 25 armed conflicts at any given time. But at the same time, there will always be a great number of people who will strive for peace. Often enough, their voices are just not loud enough to sound over the noise of war.
People will die from drugs, huge amounts of money will be made by drug-trafficking, but there will also be people who help others to get off the deadly stuff. At the same time, many people will die from the lack of medical drugs; huge amounts of money are made from legal drugs as well. But still more money would be needed to help others.
People will get killed, wounded, or tortured for their beliefs, be it for political, economical, ethnic, religious, or social reasons. With each killed person, hatred will grow, and understanding will decrease.
Somewhere in the world, children will starve, while the prime cause of death in rich countries is still heart-attacks, often caused by eating too much unhealthy food (just one of the reasons, I know). What are you doing to prevent children from starving?
The rich will become even richer, and the poor will become even poorer. I doubt that this will change in 2005.
At least one species of animal and one species of plant will become extinct. More if we aren't more careful. The tropical rain forests will become decimated even more.
We will have many natural catastrophes in 2005 as well: Hurricanes, tornadoes, taifuns, earthquakes, volcano eruptions, large-scale forest fires, landslides, floods. We can't prevent them, but we can help those who are afflicted by these disasters. And we will have many man-made catastrophes as well. Many of them (not all) could be prevented, if we cared more for each other.
There will be idiots (even here on the TMF), and there will be nice people (even here on the TMF). It's up to you to belong to either group.
A lot of changes may happen in your life, but all in all, this world will be very much the same as always. Nobody can change the world as a whole, we can only try to influence our own little world around us. For better or for worse...
Happy New Year!
