Just because a person is Christian does NOT mean that they can't like anime too. sheeesh 😛

You know "Christian" can also be considered a name. And don't talk about Christian's anyways, I'm a Christian and I felt very offended by your comment.

Depends on the anime. Show most Christians Neon Genesis Evangelion and you'd have a riot on your hands. >.>x

Sorry, no offense was intended. But can I ask you seriously, have you seen Neon Genesis Evangelion yet? If so, as a Christian, what did you think of it?

I don't understand the need to associate Evangelion solely with religion, it has just as many Neo-Freudian references as it does of biblical or Judaistic knowledge

But I was offended because I am a big fan of Christian "Captain Charisma" of WWE and I bet he likes anime

Exactly. I'm a Christian too, Roman Catholic in fact, and am one of the biggest EVA fans there is, especially a fan of it's multi-faceted use of religious icons, symbols, and references.

I personally take no offense to it because I realize three things:

1.) Its just science fiction, and on top of that its an anime.

2.) They are mere references to said religious items, and don't use them or refer to them in such a way that it would be completely blashemous to God, a god, gods, deities, etc.

3.) As long as a christian, jewish, greek, etc. viewer is strong enough in their faith, and educated enough in their respective religion, then they will know better and be confident enough to not care, since they know how it really is.

As for non-christians or non-religious, I doubt they would take an anime seriously, even if they don't know enough about the religious references. And being that they probably don't, theres no harm in them seeing it because they won't understand what going on, on the level we do.

In a way, you almost have to be religiously knowledgeable, historically knowledgeable, to know what the hell is going on in Evangelion besides what the obviousness of whats going on on the surface.

Not really. You can just simply look at Carl Jung's ideas such as but not limited to the collective unconscious, archetypes, amplification, the anima animus and shadow complexes, Freud's suggestion of the Thanatos and Eros principles, Freud's psychosexual developmental model, separation anxiety, disorder types, et al. Evangelion is actually a very fair mesh of many aspects of thought; religion is just the most easily seen one because of all the hubbub with the imagery and supposedly iconoclastic, secular content. But if you ask normal person around about psychology all they will be able to utter is "Uh, obsessive compulsive. Yeah! I saw that on As Good As It Gets."

I'm not denying that. Of course its about all those things too. Ano really went to such great lengths and crammed so much into this series that people be talking about this for years and years to come.

No I haven't seen Neon Genesis Evangelion. But I'll check it out. Any ways I didn't really read your post all that well and I guess you weren't trying to offend anyone.

No harm no foul.

Wait. You know I was just thinking about something. Not all Anime's are based on demons, monsters, killing and all the other stuff we think is fun. You know alot of sites put the word "Christian" in there sites adress so that people would feel more reluctant in posting bad images, and swearing. That could be a factor. Or not.

When websites put the word ''Christian'' in there website address. It normally often then not means that Most of the users on thoses websites are Christain believers. Sure some users that sign up for christian based websites are NOT christians but most of them are Christian believers and have faith in God.

Wow, lots of discussion here. Where to start...

Well, I'm impressed by the amount of Christians here who not only like anime, but Evangelion too. I guess I'll have to admit that I was wrong this time. Interestingly, I only know one other person like that, a close friend.

Anyway, my original comments were based on my time at www.go-gaia.com or whatever their address is now. There was always at least one religions fanatic going around telling people they were going to Hell for something. =/ Usually because they liked Evangelion of shounen-ai. Ohh well, Go-Gaia's population was mostly 13 year olds anyway, if you ask me.
