As people who post often in the TMF Sports Forum know, I am just a baseball fan and almost never comment on other sports. But even I could not miss yesterday's wonderful upset in the Men's NCAA March Madness first round: Princeton (15[sup]th[/sup] seed) 59, Arizona (2[sup]nd[/sup] seed) 55.

The greatest NCAA victory by Princeton was back in 1996, Carril's last year as the coach, when the Tigers knocked off the defending national champion UCLA Bruins 43-41. (Carril was the coach from 1967 to 1996, after which he became Assistant Coach for the Sacramento Kings until 2006 when he retired.)

It should be noted that a sophomore guard on that 1996 team, Mitch Henderson, is now the coach at Princeton.

Pete Carril died in August 2022 at the age of 92.

Here is a biography of Carril: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pete_Carril
