ok i juts downloaded a split up clip from here and it was in 3 parts, i renamed the first part to .exe and i diddnt have winrar. now....the part i changed to exe is now like an ms dos thing and i do not know much about computers and i cant delete it. doesd anyone know what to do??? cause i do not want that to stay in my documents forever!

Hi ApeQuick,
It wasn't a self extracting file. Change it back to the .rar extension. Then you can either do one of two things. The first would be to download a free version of WinRAR from http://www.rarlab.com/ install it and then right click on the first file select extract to here then you will have the clip. The second option is to simply delete the two clips.

when i try to rename the file back to .rar this is the message i get"""

It is being used by another person or program:

It says the same thing when i try and delete it too......
I am on windows XP and i have only one user on the computer...Me
and what program would be stopping me form doing this, any help please

Restart your PC and then you should be able to delete it.

This is where it gets fun
You have a couple of options first
1) launch windows explorer (Not internet explorer) then in the menu: tools select "folder options". You then have to click on the tab "view" uncheck the option "Hide extensions for known file types"
press apply and then OK. Then make sure that the problem file ends in .rar. It probably looks like this now .rar.exe .
2) If you want to stop it from running hit the ctrl, alt and delete buttons all at the same time then the tab "processes" after the windows task manager pops up. close any suspicious looking processes.
3) you can use the restore feature that comes standard with Windows XP. Go back to a date when your computer worked well.
4) This option is a little trickier select run from the start menu and type in msconfig this will launch a program that will allow you to configure your system. Choose the "startup" tab. Uncheck any programs that shouldn't be running. Click on apply and OK then restart.
5) If all else fails you can always reboot into safe mode hitting F8 at startup and the program should delete in this mode.
I think this will give you enough options have fun and good luck. P.S. I would use the first one myself.

I appreciate all your tryin to do for me, but this file is not leaving my computer, i tried every method and it still says the same thing. It keeps saying that its being used by anotehr program or person but i dont know what or why. if anyone has anything to help me please do cause its a pain just having a file on my computer that wont leave.
