There's a really great song at the end of the truly amazing movie Secretary called "Chariots Rise". In the movie you clearly hear Lizzie West sing "What grace have I, to fall so in love" and I can't find any instance of that line in lyrics to the song on the internet or on the soundtrack. I did a google search for that line specifically and found four porn sites and one reference to the movie, but no connection to the song itself. Does anyone know what the story is, was a seperate version of the song recorded for the film somehow?

When in doubt, go to the top. From Lizzie West's own message board (www.lizziewest.com/mb):

Hey - I had emailed Lizzie about the same thing and she said the original lyric is 'fool'. However, the director for the movie didn't want it implied that she was a 'fool' so he asked Lizzie to change it. Lizzie changed it to 'grace' because she loved the movie so much and wanted the song to be a part of it!

And yeah, I liked Secretary too.

Jeff,
I must admit that I did not pay attention to the song either time I watched the movie. I was probably too goosebumped at the time. It was an awesome movie. I am planning to rent it again as McGyver Tklr has yet to see it and I want to watch it with him. If we make it to the end without being otherwise "engaged", I will pay attention and look for information in the credits.

I can also ask some of my D/s friends if they know.

Thanks Shem!

I also recommend listening to the directors commentary on the DVD if you get a chance, a lot of careful planning went into the making of this movie and the director is pretty articulate about explaining it.

I just remembered hearing during the commentary that in the original short story "Secretary", when Lee Halloway masturbates thinking about Mr Grey she says "I'm so stupid, I'm so stupid!" but Maggie Gylenhaal (the actress who plays Lee) convinced the director, after some debate apparently, to change it to "I'm your secretary!" So it's interesting that the director later wanted to change the line about being a fool.
