I've noticed a lot of these threads focus primarily on the 20th century and would like to give some attention to some other great musical periods. For instance, the 1770s

lol. You sure you just want to make it that one decade? Bach died in 1750, Vivaldi earlier than that. Handel was dead. Beethoven wasn't around and really didn't start cooking till the 1790s ....I'm not that familiar with the Mozart operas from that decade.......

That said, I do love Haydn! And this piece is absolute perfection, and an excellent recording of it to boot, thanks!

I'm surprised and delighted to find other lovers of the classical composers here. And since the thread started with Haydn, here is Symphony No. 45, 1772 I believe.

Apologies for tacking to a more lowbrow road, but I thought this fitting for our current Independence Day weekend:

<object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/1MNMMc6oiK8"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/1MNMMc6oiK8" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="425" height="350"></embed></object>

An enjoyable vid for fellow history buffs, delivered though it is in emasculate [<--legit adj.] narration which would probably still sound Casey Kasem-like compared to the soporific monotone I employed in my former academic life. And it includes World at War-type B&W film of Colonial troops in action, so it must be authentic; imagine that, it's from YouTube after all.

Mozart. Nothing more needs to be said.
