Okay, this thread and question is for us TMF sports fans, and involves all sports. What one team do you consider your "archrival" team, or, probably better put, the opponent team that you dislike most, and just LOVE to see your team beat?
For me, although I live in Lancaster, PA now, my archrival team, since I have been 14 years old, has always been the New York Mets. As most who know me are aware, I used to live in the NY area until 1999, so the Mets were my local team that I would go watch the Braves play against. Even since I have moved here to PA, and now go watch the Braves in person when they come to Philly, I still havent overcome that Mets- Braves rivalry that I've had in my blood for so many years. For some reason, although I get excited when the Braves come to Philly if I'm at the game, I still get almost like a little kid whenever the Mets and Braves play on TV. Of all the teams Atlanta could ever beat, except maybe if it was in the World Series, and especially if it was the Yankees they beat there. (I dont hate the Yankees, I just want revenge someday for losing to them in the 96 and 99 World Series) I LOVE when the Braves beat the Mets. My satisfaction especially has been such since long time Braves co ace Tom Glavine went to NY to play for the Mets before the 2003 season. I havent cared if the Braves were in last and the Mets in first, such as in the 80s, or vice versa, or when both of them are battling for a playoff spot. The Braves, my favorite team, have just finished the 3 game sweep in Atlanta of the Mets, and is now 12-4 against them for the year, with 3 games left in New York next weekend. (No, Iam not rubbing it in, Mets fans, just merely making a point) I realize that the Braves may and could very well lose in the first round of the playoffs.
So, sports fans, what is your archrival team? Mine is the Mets. Always has been, probably always will be!

As a Minnesota Vikings fan, I kinda have to hate the Packers. I grew up among family who hated the Pack, and I guess I just picked it up. However, I have all the respect in the world for Brett Favre, and love to watch him play.

On a non-genetic personal level, I'd have to say the Dallas Cowboys. Hate 'em. Always have. Always will.

I would have thought my first answer was the Browns...as I am a tru Steeler fan. But I was surprised that the Ravens popped up first! Man I hate those guys! More than I dislike the Patriots! I used to root for the Patriots!

Different sports, different teams

Growing up in Maryland and Virginia, the Orioles and the then Colts were my teams. Still an Orioles fan, so I have to hate the Yankees and all their drug money (oop- did I say that out loud?) Really, though, I love watching baseball (live) so much, I can watch anyone play. I don't follow football much any more, but I always very much want the Indianapolis Colts to lose and lose big- and if they lose to the Ravens, even better.

What I really care about is Nascar. I hate Hendrick Motor Sports with all the sports fury that is in my body. Specifically, that would be Jeff Gordon with Jimmie Johnson following closely behind. Big whiny California babies who don't understand the tradition of stock car driving, though excellent drivers, both.
If Smoke or Jr puts either one of 'em in the wall, I'm a happy girl! MMmm. My blood's boiling just thinking about it!

As a Toronto Maple Leafs fan, the traditional arch rival has been the Montreal Canadiens. But since the Leafs and Habs haven't met in the playoffs in ages, the real hate is between Toronto and Ottawa and more recently those blasted Philadelphia Flyers :evilha:

As a Dodger fan, I don't have to tell you that our arch rival (since 1890) has been the hated jints.

:angel: <== Dodgers

:firedevil <== hated jjints

PS: Last night the Dodgers scored 3 runs in the bottom of the 9th to beat them, 9-8. 😀 😀

F.C.Porto!!!!!!! Definetely!!!!!!

But unfortunately, being a S.L.Benfica supporter, we don´t beat them much these days loool But we did managed to win the Portuguese league last year with Porto being really close seconds. Despite of loosing with them home and not being able to win at Porto.... 🙁

This rivalry goes to the point when you have Porto supporters singing in the stadiums things like: "We only want to see Lisbon on fire" or...."suns of a b****, SLB, suns of a b**** SLB" and others...loool

Of course we also have ours like:
"Pinto da Costa, go f*** yourself" Pinto da Costa is actually FC Porto´s chairman 😛

As a Detroit sports fan, I hated:

vs the Tigers, the Baltimore Orioles and New York Yankees. They seem to beat us bad in the 70's and 90's. (We were good in the 80's)

vs the Lions, the Minnesota Vikings. The had something like a 300 game winning streak against my Leos. (I don't want to hear it, Dave 2112)

vs the Pistons, the Chicago Bulls. Michael Jordan's bad-mouth the city after Joe Dumars shut him down in the playoffs 3 years in a row.

vs the Red Wings, The Montreal Canadiens and the Colorado Avalanche. The Canadiens won so much in the 70's and the bad blood against Colorado during the last 10 years.

vs the Michigan Wolverines, Ohio State. Arguably the best rivalry in college football.

vs the Michigan State Spartans, The Wolverines. I hate arrogant Michigan fans.

vs the Fighting Irish Of Notre Dame, Everyone. Is there a more loved/hated team in the nation?

Opposite of Dave2112 here.....as a Packer fan, I despise the Minnesota Vikings. I have all the respect in the world for their quarterback....he's a class act. But I grit my teeth at the team as a whole.

And lk, I've been a Earnhardt fan since I was 7 years old and saw him race live for the first time. I am SO with you on the Hendrick thing. I say we go egg Gordons car....INSIDE. 😉

Thanks everyone for your replies. Actually, being as that they beat the Braves twice in the World Series, and are my father's team, and those of you who know me well, know how I feel about him, I should really hate the Yankees as well as the Mets. Unfortunately, in spite of the 200 mil payroll, I do respect them. I was crushed when the Braves lost to them in 1996 and 1999 in the World Series, but I do still respect them for all their success even with the high payroll. So, my team to hate, and always will, will be the Mets. I just cant stand them.

hmmm, welll as a bills fan...it's hard to nail down just one team that we hate as a whole

first and foremost: the Dolphins (doesn't matter that Shula, Marino and that idiot that flipped us the bird is gone...we still don't like em)

the Patriots, just because...

the Cowgirls (for obvious reasons)

Sabres fan: ehhh there really isn't a team that is out and out hated by the Sabres fan (cept the Dallas Stars for obvious reasons...grrrr skate in crease is NOT a goal)

in high school it was pembroke and elba.

I grew up in a house where the Wolverines ruled football. There's pics of me as a four year old wearing my dad's U of M tee that hung down to my ankles waving pennant. So Ohio State and MSU are hated in my house growing up. I remember coming home one year for thanksgiving and wearing my boyfriend at the time's MSU sweatshirt. My dad wouldn't let me in the house until I promised to change. lol...

And my evil evil roommate Sadira... lol. The first time I spent the night here I needed a t shirt to sleep in. She pulls out her Ohio State shirt (she graduated from there) and tosses it to me. I was forced to sleep in that rag... grrr...

Ok Being a big fan of HBC's. I would have to say that the archrival team in my book would be the Wildcats of BCC. Go FAMU!!!!!!!!!!

Biggest (and most hated) rival - dEdmonton - in all sports. They just had to go out and get a lacrosse team, but they'll never get another junior hockey team.
Vancouver has become a major pain as well - guess it's the Bermuda Triangle of sports in western Canada.
I live the GVA, so anytime a Calgary team comes to town, they have a fan who is behind them in battle.....Go Flames!!!!

I am from a HBC as well, having went to Alabama A&M. So my rival would be Alabama State, hate them like a disease.

On a marching band front, it is disappointing for FAMU to duck the rest of the schools in a battle of the bands 😀

As a Red Sox fan I don't hate the Yankees like I'm supposed to, in fact I think Joe Torre is great though I hate Steinbrenner, but I sure like to see the Yanks lose to the Sox.
MLB tries to make a rivalry out of the Braves and Red Sox during interleague play because the Braves used to be in Boston, but I don't think fans of either team have bought it. I have nothing against the Braves even though the Sox struggle against them
The team I used to Really hate, well two of them actually, were the Montreal Canadians and the Philadelphia Flyers. The Flyers "Broad Street Bullies" teams were obnoxious, and back in the 70s the Bruins had a long string of Playoff futility against the Canadians that was so frustrating. I don't think any of the Orr/Esposito era Bruins won a playoff round against them.
The Rangers were another great Bruins rival back then but when then made the divisions like they are now, they ruined that rivalry since the two teams seldom play each other any more.
Good topic.

as a Devils fan, with hockey my favorite sport, nothing pleases me more tha to see the NY Rangers lose.

a meaningless franchise in a meaningless pursuit, where the years 1940 and 1994 were aberrations!

I would too share my dislike for 2 teams, being an Eagles fan I have to say the Cowboy's and Giants. are my most hated teams. With college football I just love college football and enjoy any game but I would have to pick Pitt because the Penn State /Pitt game was always for bragging rights

Dear oh dear!!.......

..........you septics dont know you are born when it comes to sports rivalry!!!

For me as a Rams fan (the original and authentic Rams who date back to 1884) it has to be, of course, the Red Dogs of Nottingham Forest, who now languish in the back waters of the English second division. Ahhh, what a shame.

Alabama state huh? I got some friends from High school over there right now on the football team. And on FAMU term noone can beat the hundred. "The baddest band in the land"
