I'm shocked that a thread for the championship series of the greatest sport on Earth has not been made yet, especially considering the two teams involved are rich in history, and have huge fan bases all over America. I guess I shall be the one that starts it.

The Red Wings and Penguins will begin to duke it in just under an hour. Post your thoughts and concerns on the series here. Let's talk some hockey, eh?

Go Wings!

If ever, in any sport, you have the best offense taking on the best defense, always bet defense.

Detroit in six.

Be that as it may, I'm still behind the Pens on this, even being a Caps fan. I think the Pens in 7.

Welcome to the Finals Penquins....you're not playing the Eastern Conference anymore...

🙂

All this and no Franzen??

Pittsburgh is too good to get swept however, Wings in 6

I still think that the majority of the outcome of this series will come down to goaltending in the end. And I also still think this series will be a 7 gamer, no sweeps in this one. Wings in 7 is my call.

Game 1 was 4 - 0 Detroit.

A chilling vision of things to come??? :shake:

I expected much more from the Penguins last night. Besides that first period where they had 3 straight power plays, the Wings totally dominated. The shots were 25-7 through the 2nd and 3rd periods! That's just insane.

For an MVP candidate, Malkin sure was awful last night, although he did have a nice assist on Samuelsson's second goal 😉

Halfway there the Red Wings are....so far just absolutely suffocating Crosby and Malkin. Pittsburgh showed their frustration at the end of the game with Sykora knocking down Osgood and others trying to goon it up with the Wings...it was funny to watch Datsyuk drop Roberts, wouldn't have ever expected that! It was pretty classless of the Pittsburgh players taking cheap shots at Franzen's head all night long also...they should worry about scoring goals since they haven't done so yet in 120 minutes of Stanley Cup Finals hockey.

Now Pittsburgh will be able to make the last change during breaks, let's see if that will help them at all..it very well could!

I think the post game interviews after Game 2 say everything. The Penguins are complaining about officiating and obstruction, instead of focusing on what they need to do to beat the Wings. Blindsiding a guy in the head who just came back from a concussion was pretty classy too. The little Penguins have much to learn about playoff hockey.

somebody please explain to me what the fuck happened last night? #1, how the hell do you have the game wrapped with a 3-2 lead late in the 3rd and give up a weak ass goal? #2, how in the hell do you possibly pick a double minor penatly in the 4th fucking overtime and have the game stripped from you; at home, no less!!! i wonder if this proves my prediction of a 7 game series?

ray, thoughts???

I agree the Penguins have a lot to learn about playoff hockey, but they'll be learning it deep into the playoffs for the next 5 years with a team that talented, and that young. Fleury was amazing in game 5 but they can't expect him to turn away 55 shots every night while getting doubled up on shots on goal. If history tells us anything, the Wings will end it tonight in Pittsburgh, but I'm hoping for a game 7 because this series is too entertaining to end yet!

Congratulations to the Detroit Red Wings, to Nick Lidstrom for being the first European captain to take the Cup and to Henrick Zetterberg for the Conn Smythe Trophy.

And for Daniel Cleary for being the first Newfoundlander to find the Cup! W00T! 😛 😀

Anyway... yes, congratulations to the Red Wings, it was a great series, and they were a great team, and they definitely deserved it.

it was a long, hard fought series and regular season. but in the end the wings prevailed. congrats to them for the win! also, i gotta take my hat off to the pens who had a great regular season and dominated through the first sereis' of the playoffs! it was a great playoff series to watch this year, both east and west, right from the start. i can't wait until next season! the only thing that's left for me to do is watch the kings to see what they do during the off season and play as much as i can during the summer! now i have nothing to watch on tv (as far as sports) until october! 🙁

Validation

The accomplishment of a fourth Stanley Cup now leaves no doubt that this is the best hockey team of the last 2 decades.

Nobody has as many Stanley Cups, regular season and playoff wins, points and Presidents Trophies (6, no other team has more than 2). This team wins at home, on the road...it doesn't matter. All 4 playoff series this year were won on the road, absolutely incredible. A fact that not a lot of people realize is that this team travels more than any other throughout the year due to their location of being in the eastern time zone but still in the Western Conference.

Talk about making changes....how 'bout the fact of winning pre and post salary cap Stanley Cups! This organization was predicted to falter badly after the lockout, especially with the loss of key players due to the cap or retirement (Shanahan, Yzerman). Chris Osgood reinvents his style of goaltending to become a butterfly goalie, it ends up winning him a Stanley Cup.

Ken Holland has to be a top 3 general manager in all of sports, if not the best. Changing players and keeping up with league rule changes (salary cap) shows that the ability to adapt is truly a beneficial attribute one needs to have to succeed.

Congratulations to the greatest hockey club on earth and one of the greatest sports franchises in existence.
