Star Trek question

Ok, today I was watching an episode of classic Trek (The Deadly Years) in which the crew ages rapidly and crosses the neutral zone with a newbie in command. My question is this..

At the end of the episode, Kirk has just taken the cure serum and is back to normal age. He quickly assumes command, takes back over the bridge and begins to issue orders to save their hide from a Romulan attack since the newbie has crossed the zone. Now here's the more specific question.. when he arrives on the bridge he tells engineering he wants full emergency power in one minute! Ok.. Scotty is still in sick bay and is taking the 'cure' as this order is given.. so logically he is not in engineering. This brings the question..

Just WHO was able to restore emergency power in one minute and basically save the ship that quickly??!! It was NOT scotty!

Don't expect consistency in scripts of what was then a weekly TV series. They were written and shot under time pressure.

True. But that one instance could have opened the door to a future storyline. It might have been interesting had they given us an answer. Then again, most probably didn't even care and I'm sure the writers didn't see it a significant part of the story so they didn't bother.

Another storyline that appears not to make sense however, is explained..

Everyone makes a big deal about Chekov not being on the Enterprise when Khan took over (Space Seed). So how did Khan remember his face?

Well, in the book Chekov WAS on the original Enterprise when Khan was there. He was a lowly ensign in training and was not allowed to intermix with the other crew in the upper levels of the ship. This is important how?

Because he would sneak up and visit the woman that Khan would eventually marry. Chekov had a crush on her too, though he kept it to himself. Khan had seen his photo when he reviewed the files of the crew through the ship's computer (and I'm sure his wife eventually told him of Chekov's visits though this is never mentioned).
