I have been watching my Trek DVDs (just finnished the animated series) and while watching the ST: The Motion Pucture Spock says something about a world of Machines. I took to google and evidently there is a theory tha V'ger created the Borg as probs to assist it in it's mission. Does anybody know anything about this theory?

It's an interesting consideration but it doesn't work for me, personally. V'ger came from a world of sentient machines. These are fully 100% artificial life forms. The Borg are essentially cybernetic organisms, beings with both organic and biomechatronic body parts. I can't see the sentient machines introducing organics into their creations and all of the pitfalls that come with it. I think they would be for more likely to create more sentient machines like themselves.

Moreover, when V'ger merged an organic humanoid (I believe Lt. Ilia was Deltan) and the machine, the result was a flawlessly perfect looking woman - a far cry from the pasty faced techno-zombies that are the Borg. Sure, 7 of 9 was mega hot, but only after some serious reconstructive surgery by the holographic doctor.

As interesting as this theory might be, I don't ascribe to it because I find nothing redeemable about the awfulness that was Star Trek: The Slow Motion Picture
