Here is a screenshot and initial SWF of a Star Wars Flash game. This is already in the Polls section. I'm posting here because I'm not sure how many people get to the Polls threads (I know I don't go there very often).

The original post with a description and a follow-up or two can be found here.
http://tickletheater.com/showthread.php?t=12300&page=3&pp=10

The game is not really a game yet per se. All you can do right now is turn the ticklers on and off and watch her laugh change based on how much you're tickling her. No sound.

Yes, I know the graphics could be better (it's sort of Clone Wars cartoon meets South Park right now). I didn't spend my time there because I'd rather spend what little time I have for stuff like this on making it work.

Looks fun....but the flash won't work for some reason.
Nothing happens until you click on the control buttons in the lower left box.

Mega-cool, clean_kitchen! 😀

Best of luck with the rest of the game. BTW whose voice do you plan to use for laughter? If possible, please make her a high-pitched screamer. 😉

From a quick glance it looks very well done. 🙂

Two thumbs up.

About the graphics they look good enough to me, and besides, with flash you can easily modify them later, so they really look ok.

I especially liked the way she panted after some tickling. 🙂

Just a request: I've been dabbling with flash animation and I noticed you could implement certain events [such as animations] with "mouseover" condition - just hovering the mouse over certain areas you could have a certain animation start.

It would be nice if you could manually tickle her too - of if she pleaded when you reached for the ticklish spot with the mouse arrow.

Great work. 🙂

i got the same problem as anime316, it just won't work. it pops up saying:

Can't read file header! Unknown format!

can someone help? i'm dying to see it work.

and kitchen, can you pretty please add sound? some laughter would be awesome.

For me, after i unzip it to a folder and open the file all i see is a pure white screen in the flash player. Nothing else.

I'm surprised by the concept, your lack of inspiration sure is great. I'm pretty sure you WILL improve it with sound and of course game play. But the concept is great.

My compliments! 🙂 I had the ambition to do a tk based game myself, since always, but I could never come up with anything, for lack of time or whatever. My idea was like a tk based MUD, with dome graphics, probably too ambitious.
Your idea is much more factual and Flash is probably the best way to do something like that. The graphic is good for me, very cartoon like, that's the best, in my opinion, for a tk game (I know, probably the dungeon kind of tk fans won't agree ;->).
I agree with Kalamos: the panting is super cute and the mouseover tk (possibly with a change of the mouse pointer, I think it can be done) would be great. With some sound that would be perfect.
The animation is also good, the "control panel" looks appealing, it's definitively something you must keep working on! Thank you 🙂

wow

Keep us informed off this... looks cool. But I have yet to make it work...

Found a possible bug - or a feature.

These are the activation switches:

[1] [2] [3]
[4] [5] [6]

If you click [1] and [3], or [1] and [5], the ticklee keeps biting her lips instead of starting laughing.

Great work anyway, really. 🙂

Aggregate response to several posts:

-- First, this is a very early version (pre-alpha). I'm sure some parts don't make sense (not that they necessarily will when it's finished).

-- Kalamos: Good observation. The button combinations elicit different responses by design. My idea is that part of the game would be finding the right combinations to get the best results. It's not just about tickling a lot, it's also about tickling right. It's clumsy right now, I admit, but that's the concept.

-- Believe it or not, I'm a veteran and certified Flash developer and ActionScript expert. I had considered many of the things mentioned in this thread -- and I do, by the way, appreciate the input from all of you -- but wanted simply to arrive at a simple model that allowed me to play with the actual game logic (controlling stamina and intensity levels, etc.) It's a simple thing from that point on to change how the tickling actually happens. I only have an hour here and there to give to this.

-- As to those of you who have difficulty getting it to work: check your Flash Player versions. I use MX 2004 Pro, and I probably exported the movie for Flash Player 7. I'm not sure; that's the default and I don't know that I changed it, maybe I did. Anyway, it's written in ActionScript 1, so I'll see about exporting it for Flash Player 5 or 6 if I can get to it.

-- As to those who think the theme is less than interesting: get over it. I happen to be into Star Wars tickling storylines, but I know that doesn't mean everyone else it. I started with the idea that the graphics and ticking methods could be redone on top of the logic to whatever theme (catroon or photographic) someone wanted. If you want, I'll give you the FLA file and you can have at it. I'm not saying that to be argumentative; I'm saying I'm not married to the theme and wouldn't be offended if someone wanted to take it and change it on his or her time.

I think that's it for now. Thanks to all for the input.

Thanks, I really enjoyed playing this swf "gamelet". 🙂

It's not clumsy. It's subtle. 🙂
And I like subtleness.

I had something similar lying in my "drawer" for a long time: I could draw the single parts [the feet, the face and so on] but I am a semi-total nuub at flash animation - so I could barely piece together a "mouseover" ani with some wiggling action.

Then I put the project away.

I don't know if you need help, but drop my a line if you'd like some spare parts. 🙂

This flash game looks very promising. And I wonder why nobody [me included - I haven't learnt Flash yet 😀 ] managed to make one before.

Oh, let me add a couple of things. Maybe they come in handy. You never know. 🙂

Why have I waited so long to check this out? This is awesome!!! This has potential to really be a fantastic "game" when it is finished. I love the different reactions she has to various levels of stimuli and I love the panting afterwards. Awesome!
Idea...Could she return to her original face (or something) after she pants for a bit?
Also I like the idea someone posted of having her plead when you mouse over the controls. 😀

Could anyone help me get this thing to work? Is there a place we can play it online yet? Because it just won't start.

weird, i have the flash media for it. But it wont work. It says i need the flash, but i have it. can someone help me out please. I really wanna play this game. thank you

Notice About Getting It To Work

A lot of people wrote that they could not get it to work. The only way that one can open a .swf file directly from their computer is to have a Flash player. This is not the same thing as a Flash plug-in. If you have not been to macromedia.com to download a Flash player, and you do not have Flash on your computer, then you do not have a Flash player. You only have a Flash plugin.

There are two things you can do.

1) Go to macromedia.com and download a flash player.

2) Create a text file and copy in the following:

<style type="text/css">
<!--
body {
background-color: #000000;
}
-->
</style><br><br><br>
<div align="center">
<object classid="clsid😀27CDB6E-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000" codebase="http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=6,0,29,0" width="640" height="480">
<param name="movie" value="episode1.swf">
<param name="quality" value="high">
<embed src="episode1.swf" quality="high" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="640" height="480"></embed>
</object>
</div>

-- Rename this file to starwarstickle.html

-- Place it in the same folder as the .swf file you already downloaded.

-- Open starwarstickle.html with your browser.

You should see clean_kitchen's flash without a problem. Lookin' good, c_k!

I'm happy that someone did something that i'm also doing ^_^

The main difference is that i'm using visual basic 6 and a 3d engine for the 3d interactive part instead of flash (i don't know flash, so is more easy for me to program something in vb6 😀)

Anyway i've noticed that the main problem here is the graphic 🙁 in the forum maybe you can find a lot of people that know how to make good programs, script or swf animation, but few people agree to give some artwork for the various projects about a tickling game :O and there's 2 or 3 people that are great in drawings and also in manga style characters 😉

I think that the best thing is to create a developing project where who want to cooperate can enter and give help ^_^ because those projects are made by people that work all the day and in the spare time have fun doing this 😉

I throw the stone in the lake: who is interested in a serious project? who can give about 2 hours each week for the project? who want to cooperate and share the good and bad things about a tickling game?

I hope that someone will answer and a good team will be created 😀 is impossible for one person to make all, so i think that some of the best in some section (like programming, flash animations, 3d models, 3d animation and 2d animation, and don't forget about the story...the plot in the back of the game! isn't only savage tickling huh? LOL ) can cooperate with others to make the best amatorial project that someone seen on the tickling scene.

Anyway each person can go ahead alone....but for me this is a waste of strenght, time and energy.

I've send the message...now let's see if someone will answer 😀

It WOULD be cool if people pooled their various strengths together and could make a really kickass game. There are enough techy people here to put together an excellent team. 😛

Hi Footamateur, I think you are the same who posted something similar some time ago on TMF. There were actually some people there who said they would have supported your projects, both artists and programmers, included me.
In your last post on TMF you said you would have posted the address of a Yahoo group with docs about your idea of the game, but you never posted it...
However, I'm glad that you showed up again here 🙂
The idea is obviously good and exciting, but I don't know if VB is a good choice. The idea of clean_kitchen was good particularly because it was simple, simply realizable and he used a tool that is particularly good to make fancy graphics/animation things, that is Flash.
Planning to do something more complex could be risky, people could start that, then after a while they have no more much spare time, it gets more complicated than they thought, they get bored because it takes too long and so on.
Anyway, it is undoubtly worth a try 🙂 So, here some suggestion:
1) Make it a RPG, something that could possibly be played on line, allowing players to interact, like a MUD. That way, in my opinion, the game has more chances to live long, since it would let people experience a kind of enhanced chat, and it could end up being a valuable socialization instrument for tk community. Plus, in my opinion, RPG are extremely fun 🙂
2) To do something complex, it would be better to use something different than VB. A serious project should take in consideration a server part and clients; I don't know VB much, but I don't think it's the ideal thing to do something like that, specially the server part. I would rather use Java or C++. VB can be fine as a client, but, if you have to use a strictly Windows tool, I think Delphi is more flexible, Object oriented, good support for networking, and so on. One could think about taking advantage of .net architecture, that allows to integrate quite well components of different natures and written in different languages, but personally I would avoid Microsoft tools on principle: with .net you have to be tied to a specific SO, it only works with IIS, and so on. Plus, you have to give money to uncle Bill, while there are plenties of free/open sources resources to use.
3) Consider using Flash for the client: I don't know how the Flash support for networking is, but I have recently read that it can work as a presentation layer handler for server delivered contents. Maybe clean_kitchen can give us information on this. Flash is perfect to do animations for applications. As I said I don't know VB well, but I think it wouldn't be so straightforward to do serious animations with it, while Flash is born to do that. What kind of 3D engine are you using?
4) Artwork: If this project starts, and I really hope it will, you will need different people working on the artwork part, so I think it would be better not to limit it to manga style, there are many artists who could and would contribute that have no confidence with that style.
5) It would be great to know more about your project, what exactly are you planning to use, on the technical side, what kind of game you have in mind, maybe having a scheme of the system you're planning.

I would be glad to contribute, I think I can work on that 2 hours a week, even if probably not every week, but I'll do my best 🙂
I work since years with Java, Delphi and Python, have done many web applications, can also use JSP, Php, a bit of Perl, and can use C/C++. I think I could learn VB if it is necessary, and I'm fashinated by Flash, so if Flash will be used, I would certainly start to learn it and maybe I could help with it too.
I can also draw, but I'm not particularly keen on manga.
