This is more of just a vent from me I guess. Unless any of you out there play this very addicting game. It's Star Wars online role playing game. I am a videot and this is by far the best massively mulit person role playing game I have ever played. The reason it is so much better then any other I have played is this, distinctiveness. Other fantasy games online all have common themes, the charactors look alike, the play is the same old boaring "ok I hit you then you hit me....and so on till some one or some thing dies". Star Wars had the common theme of it being an online mulit player game. But it stopped there. The differences in game play, fighting, graphics, sounds, crafting, all was unique. Now Sony Online Entertainment (SOE) has seen fit to upgrade the game. And I am all for upgrades and bug fixes. Thier idea of this is to create a whole new game based loosely off the old system. I went to the test server and tried out there "Combat Upgrade" (CU). I was hearing all kinds of negitive talk about it and was falling into the same trap but decided to give it a chance. Well SOE's chance lasted all of maybe 5 minutes. OMG they have ruined the game and the uniqueness that "WAS" Star Wars Galaxies (SWG) and the good name of Lucas Arts. We as a player base have been telling SOE we don't want there CU and all the things we don't like about it. Well in one chat session with the developers they stated that SOE doesn't care about what the veteran players want and don't care if they quit. What they want is people to buy the game (cost of approximately $40 US) then subscribe for 1 month (cost of $12 US) then quit. Now this came from the developers of the game (SOE) and not Lucas Arts. There was only 1 petition that I knew of that was going around, which I signed. There are approximtely 8,000 names on that petition, some of those people are like me and have more than 1 account. So lets just say that 7,000 of those that signed are legitimate and only have 1 account. (each account is $12 US remember) Now that is $84,000 US per month. That much that SOE doesn't care about and think that they can afford to loose. Well the CU was scheduled to go live on the 5th of next month. After banning many people from the game, some of which were banned perminately, and editing unfavorable posts on the SOE forums to make them seem favorable (if not deleting the post entirely and banning the person who posted it). They (SOE) in there infinite wisdom brought the servers down yesterday 6:00am central time to install the CU on the servers and go live with it some time tonight around 6:00pm central time. I know none of you probably play and enjoy this game as much as I (they even have this little emote "tickle" and when you use it on some one your character reaches out and the emote shows "You tickle (name) unmercifully" hehe that is just way too cool. But anyway now the friends I have made there are leaving and the game I love is gone without the permission of the people who pay the salaries of those who's decision it was to change it. Anyway I just had to vent that.
