Starting online vid company in CA

Im finally ramping up from planning to production of Dark Angel Video and I am having trouble finding info on whats legally required for an online (media) business in California.

I already own my url name, darkangelvideo.com...

Do I need a "doing business as" or a federal / state tax id?
Also, how does one copyright their work, name, etc. Is there a good website with info?

I know I need proof on file of over age 18, but do I need to keep more info such as paid models fees, etc?

I will be selling my content online, on both DVD and pay-per-view, as well as potential distribution to retail outlets.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

There are a few producers here who reside in CA. If you don't get the responses you need, you might try contacting them directly. Good luck with things. Be sure to give us a link once you're up and running.

Even if you get to talk to a producer, I'd still talk to a lawyer. That way all of your bases are covered.

When I ran a software company in NJ, when I created the company I was issued tax IDs - and if you want to copyright your work, you'll need to fill out the proper forms. I believe they can be gotten on the Internet, but all I know about copyrights relates solely to music.

Keeping detailed records never hurts - you should do it whether you need to or not.

My buddy just started an adult website on the net and he went through the ringer to get everything legal. It takes a while but well worth the time to do it right.
