Yes, I know there's loads of posts on this, and I apologise! But through scrawling through the forum and finding people suggesting building is far simpler and more cost effective than buying, I have one problem. Plans! I am truly useless with carpentry and have the most rudimentary tools available. Also, no real way of asking for help without it being obvious.

So my question to the members of the board is thus: What would you recommend for the most basic stock building? How to really make it simple. Two planks of wood, a hinge, etc.
Are there any plans or anything that people used?

Really, any help would be brilliant.

Thanks in advance!

Grab a pen and paper and sketch out the stocks, and you'll solve your own problem.

You need at least a couple sturdy pieces of wood, right, for a top and bottom. Then, to hold them in place, you'll most likely need some sort of base and frame for them, probably 2x4s on either end. Then you'll probably need some padding so the ankles are comfy when in the stocks. Figure out how much room you'll need for the ankles, and plan a little bit more for the padding.

Then figure out how to construct the solid pieces and the moveable piece or pieces, depending on how portable you need it to be (is it attached to other furniture like a bench or a chair? do you take it down and put it away when you're not using it?)

Then, put it together and get some feet in them! 😀

I haven't done any of this yet myself, but it's the approach I'd take. You'll probably need at minimum some lumber, a screwdriver and some screws and a jigsaw to cut the ankle holes. But remember, every project is an opportunity to buy more tools. 😉
