Going to bed one night, a man noticed people in his shed stealing
things.

He phoned the police but was told no one was in the area to help.
They said they would send someone over as soon as possible.

He hung up.

A minute later he rang again. "Hello," he said, "I called you a
minute ago because there were people in my shed. You don't have to
hurry now, because I've shot them."

Within minutes there were half a dozen police cars in the area, plus
helicopters and an armed response unit. They caught the burglars red-
handed.

One of the officers said: "I thought you said you'd shot them?"

The man replied: "I thought you said there was no one available!"

ha ha, I guess one day I will be amused

True story...

A poor but honest citizen moved his family into a rental house in The Hood. On a Friday night, he got into an altercation with a gangbanger and beat the crap out of the thug. The gangbanger threatened the citizen's life and the lives of his family. The neighbors advised the citizen to take the threat seriously, so he called the police.

The beat officer stopped by and made a report, then said that the beat car would make one extra drive-by per shift - all they had the manpower to do. So the citizen took his family to a relative's house to stay the night.

Saturday morning, our guy bought a 10-shot semiautomatic rifle and a box of shells (at the time, there was a 3-day wait for a pistol, but none for a rifle.) Saturday night, the thug and 3 of his buddies came after the citizen at his house, guns in hand. The citizen shot all 4 from concealment of a backyard shed, killed 3 of them. He gathered up the guns, unloaded his own, then called the police. He spent the next 2 days as a guest of the City at the Gray Bar Hotel.

Monday, the District Attorney no-billed the case. All charges dropped - obvious case of self defense. The citizen even got his rifle back. The surviving thug went to prison for 2nd Degree Murder, because he was participating in the murder attempt that got his pals killed.

This is an incident that, sadly, does hold truth about the world's law enforcement.

What are you laughing your ass off at, Divine ?

No law enforcement officer should ever be laughed at unless he/she holds a PHD in civil/criminal law plus a Masters in local/state political corruption and makes at least 300K a year.

Most of these officers make 30 grand a year tops.

I wouldn't do the job for that and you wouldn't either.

You can either have "adequate Police protection" or you can have Ministry for State Security (East German Stasi) style 100% monitoring/observation (or the City of London Big Brother approach). You choose.

But don't forget, the more Police Officers you have, the more crime you must have, otherwise they'll get bored and more things will become police matters. Works the same with Congress. Lawyers. Others.

The ideal situation is one in which the neighborhood is tight knit enough to take care of itself and only in extreme situations needs the Police, because there is absolutely no way that that 1 Police Officer per 10,000 population or 10 sq. miles or whatever it is in your area is going to be at all the locations at exactly the time the shit hits the fan there.

We have too much of the "fire and forget" mentality in los Estados Unidos. We elect congressmen and forget about them until the next election, we send our children to school and forget that they remain our responsibility, we call the Police and forget that they need our support.

If you knew all of the reasons that people call the Police it would be clear why even a 1:10 Ratio, citizen😛.O. wouldn't be enough.

A final question:
How many of us have ever bought anything "hot" only to complain later about high crime rates and unsafe neighborhoods?

There was a farmer called Tony Martin here in Britain, who did pretty much the same thing. Two habitual burgulars with police records longer than the Empire State Building's elevator shafts broke into his property and scared the shit out of him. His response? He shot them both in the arse with birshot from a double-barrelled shotgun.(Ammunition that would lacerate and cause great discomfort, but Both staggered outside, but the youngest one, a 16 year old thug/habitual criminal called Fred Barras had a few pellets tear his femoral artery. The result of that? He bled to death. The result of that? Tony Martin got convicted of murder and sentenced to life imprisonment.

A few years later his conviction was reduced on appeal to manslaughter and his sentence greatly shrunk. (Could have been to something like 8 or 10 years, can't remember.)

The conclusion? British justice has a serious weed up it's arse. I'm never in favour of unecessarily violet situations, but both those two little twats knew what they were doing. Tony MArtin had been terrorised on his farm, where he lived alone, for months. He should have been given a fucking knighthood, not a prison sentence. :disgust:

Hey Jim,
When I posted this, I was thinking of you. I am glad you saw it.

British justice...

Friends who live in the UK tell me that it's illegal to defend yourself there. If you do, you're likely to spend more time in prison than your attacker. Jim's story would seem to confirm that. It's probably the reason Big Brother surveillance cameras have proliferated there - the police can't be everywhere, but the camera provides a little bit of a deterrent.

It started to change for the worse, like so many other things, in the 1960's. About 35 years ago, I saw this exchange on the Johnny Carson Show between Johnny and the British detective who caught the Great Train Robbers.

Johnny Carson: We hear a lot these days about the efficiency of the British justice system (NOTE: ours had started to go to hell about that time.)

Detective: I think the worst thing you can do in Britain is to stick up a train and steal a few pounds. You'll get life in prison for that. But if you kidnap, rape, sodomize and murder a little girl, and throw her body in a ditch to be eaten by ravens, you'll be sent to a psychiatric hospital and be out in a few years (NOTE: a case at about the same time.)

JC: What do you favor then?

D: I favor a suspended sentence.

JC: (confused) Suspended sentence?

D: (grabs his own necktie, pantomimes a hanging)

Studio Audience: (loud applause)

JC: And now, a word from our sponsor... (NOTE: 10 minutes early)

But the downhill slide continued, with the results you see. It's too bad. I like Brits, and I like the UK. But I wouldn't want to live there.

Id like to try that when my neighbors start acting up again, but Im afraid Id get hung for making threats or some silly shit

Here I thought it was only in America that it was a crime to defend yourself How stupid of me to forget It's not the criminals fault that they are stealing It's all society's fault:sowrong:

Everyone has final responsibility for their own actions, provided they're of an informed and legal age. But I think society can really cut back on the amount of criminality there is in it, depending on how close-knit it is.

Don't ask me. As I said, I'd have given him a civic award. Perhaps a little vengeful of me, but I can't help it sometimes. Killing someone in self-defence, on youer own property, when they've been tormenting you for weeks, is waaaaaaaaayyyyyy different to a cold-blooded and protracted killing.

Hey, I'm all for that. If someone trys to threaten you in any way, you better be able to blow his brains across the front yard.

Funny how it's easy to bash cops, but given the amount of money they make, one might understand why they only came a'runnin' when they thought someone was shot. 😉

A few years ago, my brother, a cop, was shot in the line of duty. He was part of a team of police officers who were chasing a man through a wooded area. The man had just killed a cop about 30 minutes before and fled the scene. My brother was shot in the leg and fell. He bled quite a bit before he resigned. He'll be the first to tell you that bullets get attention fsater than phone calls. And nowadays, as he he enjoys his computer job...lol...he'll tell you that with a smirk. 😛

I certainly hope you are not making that grumpy face at me 😡and rather at the fact that cops risk their lives daily often for less money than the guy assembling bikes at Walmart!

If you misinterpreted my statement, as it seems possible by the way you took the quote out of context, I hope this de-confuses ya. 😛

LOL No I was making the face at the size of my salary Jo. I knew exactly whatcha meant and was just replying in agreement wit'cha.

Look, here's a nice happy one for you. ----------> 😀

British Traffic Cops................

.......they really do piss me off! perhaps Big Jim can tell us location of the "British Traffic Cop School of Sarcasm"....they all seem to finish their training at this establishment. The syllabus at this school has not changed for decades and they all trot out the same old crap.

Good Christ!

If Red's calling someone sarcastic, it must be a horror beyond horrors! :wow:

Sheesh, Jim, do they teach traffic cops how to kill with a word as Red's post implies? 😛

Joby *looks around* Sarcasm? Where? 🙄

I understand how it seems the police are never around when you call. Perhaps I can allow you a look on the other side. I served as a federal officer on Capitol Hill and 2 years as a D.C. cop working a horrible ghetto where people could shoot each other during the day and nobody saw or heard anything, however at midnight I could be arresting someone in the alley for selling narcotics and people 3 streets away claim they saw you plant drugs on the kid, who's already been locked up several times for similar offenses.
In fact you don't get much support from the public when you risk your life arresting those who have injured others and the next day people are protesting to spare the violent criminals life, who just possibly killed your kid or wife. (Did we forget about the victoms) Its always lets help the criminals there victoms of life, right. See I believe people loose sight of the facts that officers are the ones punished for what happens to everyone. Example: You call the police because someone threatens you, however, the threat doesn't meet the elements of a crime written by our lawmakers, so I would tell you I'll take a report and attempt to make more patrols in the area, but I cannot arrest the guy. If he comes back and harms you you blame me, if I go arrest before he harms you I'm sewed for violating his civil rights.
Then the police also get held responsible for others stupidity. such as: Officer I left my car outside the gas station well I went into pay, I left the car running because I was only going to be a minute and it's cold and I wanted to leave the heat on for my 6 year old daughter who's now missing. Due to problems like this is the real reason officers aren't always available to help you.
I did not write this to spite anyone, however, there is a misunderstanding between citizens and lawenforcement, and believe me there are corrupt people in every career, but I'm sure if someone attempted to explain there job to me I might not understand all your trials and tribulations either. Hope this helps and remember we all have this web site in common, right.
